Abstract
• Vehicle accident alert system using GPS, GSM,
accelerometer and arduino.
• The rise in technology and the increased demand for
automobiles has increased the traffic hazards and the
road accidents.
• Our idea is to detect the accident and automate
emergency assistance service.
• As a result system is sending SMS to the nearest
emergency assistance service provider from the
accident location.
• Early detection and timely action will help a lot in
accident situations.
Introduction
• Vehicle accidents cause lot of damage. Early detection
and timely action will help a lot in accident situations.
• This design is a system which can detect accidents in
significantly less time and sends the information to the
service provider .
• Accelerometer detects the sudden changes in the axes of
vehicle and GSM module sends the alert with the location
of the accident and speed of vehicle.
• A smart phone based accident detection system is also
proposed but smart phones are very expensive and due
to false alarm filter, it may not detect all accidents.
• This system will save many accident victims with timely
rescue.
• We made this project with an acoustic accident detection
method.
Literature survey

• Purva Javale al. have proposed the accident detection

and surveillance of computer using technologies[1]
which explains how the accident detected by using the
computer technologies.
• S.K.C.Varma al. have proposed automatic vehicle
accident detection and messaging system using GPS
and GSM module[2].
• Nithin thakre al. have proposed automatic vehicle
accident detection and localization of automobile using
Bluetooth technology[3].

Components
• Arduino: is a popular programmable board used to create projects.
It consists of a simple hardware platform as well as a free source
code editor which has a “one click compile or upload” feature.

• 10K Potentiometer: Two terminals are connected to both ends of

a resistive element, and the third terminal connects to a sliding contact, called a
wiper, moving over the resistive element. The position of the wiper
determines the output voltage of the potentiometer.
Components
• GPS Module: GPS stands for Global Positioning System and
used to detect the Latitude and Longitude of any location on the
Earth, with exact UTC time (Universal Time Coordinated).

• GSM Module: It is a complete Quad-band GSM Module which can

be embedded easily used by customer or hobbyist. GSM Module
provides an industry-standard interface. It delivers GSM/GPRS
850/900/1800/1900MHz performance for voice, SMS, Data with
low power consumption.
Components
• 16×2 LCD is named so because; it has 16 Columns and 2 Rows. There are a lot
of combinations available like, 8×1, 8×2, 10×2, 16×1, etc. But the most used
one is the 16*2 LCD, The LCD can work in two different modes, namely the 4-bit
mode and the 8-bit mode.
Software Description
Arduino IDE:

The Arduino (IDE) Software - contains a text editor for writing code, a
message area, a text console, a toolbar with buttons for common
functions and a series of menus. It connects to the Arduino and
Genuino hardware to upload programs and communicate with them.
Advantages
• Easy to detect the exact location of the vehicle.
• Intelligent high-tech safety system.
• It saves the precious time required to save the accident victims.
Applications
• Used in automotive and transport vehicles from lighter vehicles like
cars, to heavier automotive like ships and aero planes.
• This system is also can be interfaced with Vehicle airbag system
such that when the sensors detect the accident, the air bags get
opened.
• School transport vehicle accident detection.
• This project can be used for cab or car of companies.
