DEFINITION OF MATRIX IE
Matrix IE is one of the management strategy tools used to
analyse the conditions and position of the business strategy.
Matrix IE consists of two dimensions :
◦ Total weight score from IFE matrix on X axis

◦ Total weight score from EFE matrix on Y axis


Matrix IE can be divided into three main areas
that have different implications, namely :
◦ Divisions that enter in cell I, II, IV can be called Grow and Build
◦ Division that enter in cell III, V, VII are best managed with Hold
and Maintain Strategy
◦ Division that enter in cell VI, VIII, or IX are best managed with
Harvest or Divest Strategy
EXAMPLE
Suppose a company A :

◦ Total IFE weight score : 2.79


◦ Total EFE weight score : 2,46

Matrik IE Company A is indicated by point B that resides in cell V


So Company A must Hold and Maintain its position and use a strategy that
focuses on the improvement of Market Penetration and Product
Development.
