Energy Supply
Microhydro Solar Power

40%
Solar Total Energy = 1400 kW
60%
Microhydro • Solar : 840 kW
• Microhydro : 560 kW
Energy Supply – Microhydro
The power produced at the turbine shaft is
determined using the following relation,
P = ρngQH

P - power (W)

ρ - density of water (kg/m3 )

g - acceleration due to gravity

(m/s2)

Q - discharge (m3 /s)

H - head (m)

n - overall efficiency of turbine,

generator and gear box
(80 to 90%)

7
Energy Supply – Microhydro
Site investigation
• The project site is located in Malang

• The river lies on between 2 mountains

• The stream is a seasonal one, but it has more discharge in rainy

season because of its large catchment

• The head of the water fall is 80 m and it’s situated at an elevation

of 460 m from mean sea level

• A tribal settlement of about 200 failies is reached within a radius

of 3 Km from the stream is located

8
Energy Supply – Microhydro
Energy Requirement
a) Domestic Load
Based on approximation with the the local people and
authorities, for 200 houses, the domestic load considered as :

Lamp (10 W) : 30 units x 10 W x 200 houses = 60 kW

Dairy Needs (50 W) : 1 x 50 W x 200 = 10 kW

Total = 60 kW + 10 kW = 70 kW
9
Energy Supply – Microhydro
b) Power house Installation Capacity
Assuming the losses in the power house and line to be 10% and
taking 20% future growth as 20%, the power house installation
capacity is worked out below

Domestic Load = 70 kW

Future load Growth = 0.2 x 70 kW = 14 kW

Power House consumption and line losses = 0.1 x (70kW + 14kW)

= 8.4 kW

Total Load = 70 kW + 14 kW + 8.4 kW = 92.4 kW

10
Energy Supply – Microhydro
c) Energy consumption per day

Assume 6 hours for domestic lighting and for dairy needs,

the calculation as follows

Total = 6 x (92.4kW) = 554.4 kWh

11
Energy Supply – Microhydro
Selection of Electro Mechanical Equipment
 Turbine Spesific speed (Ns)

𝟏 Τ𝟐 −𝟏.𝟐𝟓
𝑵𝒔 = 𝑵𝑷 𝑯
H = Head (m) N = Speed (rpm)
Ns = Spesific Speed P = Power (kW)

For 80 m head, 20 kW power, speed of 1500 rpm (4 poles), spesific

speed is around 25. From reference, CROSSFLOW TURBINE IS SUITABLE

12
Energy Supply – Solar Power
Where to put it? We put it on the roof.

60 x 3600 x 7 x 2000 / 3600000

= 840 kWh

• 60w/m2 is the power of solar panels

• 3600 s = 1 hour
• 7 hours per day
• Solar panels cover 2000 m2
• 1 kWh = 3,600,000 J

840 x 365 = 306,600 kWh/year 13

Energy Supply – Solar Power
What purpose?
Daily Life
Light; Hot water; Power source…

• We need lithium battery to store the power.

• We also need the lower energy consumption infrastructure.

What’s more, we also use the solar power to support the UAV

14
Water Needs

Based on the survey by Pusat Teknologi

Lingkungan, Badan Pengkajian & Penerapan
Teknologi, the average value for water usage in
one family is about 100-400 liter/day. The
percentage of usage as follows
• 70% for daily activites (showering, watering,
etc)
• 30% for drink needs
Fullfilled with well water
While, for the farm and agriculture used the
river water.

Special Feature
Unmanned Armed Vehicle
Why we put UAV in village?
 In order to free people’s hands.
 We can use UAV to spread insecticide.
If we do that
we will save 50% insecticide and 90% water
Efficiency will increase by 30 times
