What is the meaning of


adverb?

Adverbs are words that tell you more about verbs, adjectives,
and other.
Adverbs, unlike adjectives, do not modify nouns. Adverbs
can also modify phrases, clauses, and sentences.
Adverbs answer one of the following questions : When?
Where? Why? How? Under what conditions? and To what
extent?
EXAMPLE

1. Adverbs of Time
To tell us when something happens.

After, always, before, during, early, later, never, now, often,


Adverbs of time rarely, recently, sometimes, soon, then, today, tomorrow,
usually, yesterday, etc.

Example :
1. I’m going to my new school tomorrow.
2. My shoes will be too small for me next year.
3. John will attend the soccer game after he finishes his
homework.
4. It rained heavily last night.
5. We’ll leave as soon as possible.
2. Adverbs of Manner
To explain how an action is carried out.

Badly, beautifully, better, bravely, cheerfully, fast, hard, slowly,


Adverbs of manner
quickly, healthy, well, safely, correctly, carelessly, skillfully, etc.

Example :
1. Sarah slowly walked over the rocky beach.
2. He was driving carelessly.
3. The girls answered all the questions correctly.
4. Katy plays the piano skillfully.
5. The plane landed safely.
3. Adverbs of Place
To explain where an action happens.

Above, away, below, down, here, inside, near, outside, there, up,

anywhere, etc.

Example :
1. Susan placed the boxes above the file cabinet.
2. It’s very sunny but cold outside.
3. That’s our ball there.
4. I couldn’t find my book anywhere.
5. The dog is in the garden.
4. Adverbs of Degree
To discuss the degree or intensity of an adjective, an action, or another
adverb.

Almost, completely, enough, entirely, extremely, hardly, just,

little, much, nearly, quite, rather, very, too, etc.

Example :
1. Budi worked very hard to complete his part of the
project.
2. She’s not experienced enough for this job.
3. She is extremely polite.
4. This coffee is too hot.
5. Adverbs of Frequency
To express time or how often something occurs.

Always, never, usually, daily, regularly, rarely, sometimes,

occasionally, etc.

Example :
1. Bob always forgets to check his email before class
begins.
2. Jeny practices the piano regularly.
3. The newspaper is delivered daily.
4. We get paid hourly.
6. Adverbs of Duration
To tell us how long something happened.

Example :
