The hydraulic brake is an arrangement of braking mechanism which uses brake fluid, typically containing ethylene glycol, to transfer pressure from the controlling mechanism to the braking mechanism.

mechanism which uses brake fluid, typically containing ethylene glycol, to transfer pressure from the controlling mechanism to the braking mechanism. Fred Duesenberg originated hydraulic brakes on his 1914 racing cars and Duesenberg was the first automotive marque to use the technology on a passenger car in 1921. WORKING OF HYDRAULIC BRAKES Hydraulic Brakes work on the principle of Pascal’s Law which states that “Pressure on an incompressible fluid is equal in all directions”. When pressure is applied on a fluid it travels equally in all directions so that uniform breaking action is applied in all 4 wheels. The Forces that are applied at one point are transmitted to another point by means of an incompressible fluid. In brakes we call this brake fluid. CONSTRUCTION AND PARTS
A Hydraulic Braking System consists of :
Brake pedal or Lever A pushrod (also called an actuating rod) A master cylinder assembly containing a piston assembly (made up of either one or two pistons, a return spring, a series of gaskets/ O-rings and a fluid reservoir) Reinforced hydraulic lines Brake caliper assembly usually consisting of one or two hollow aluminum or chrome-plated steel pistons (called caliper pistons), a set of thermally conductive brake pads and a rotor (also called a brake disc) or drum attached to an axle. The system is usually filled with a glycol-ether based brake fluid (other fluids may also be used). IN HYUNDAI VEHICLES ADVANTAGES OF HYDRAULIC BRAKING SYSTEM 1.They transmit uniform pressure. (Due to hydrostatic pressure being equal in all directions, Pascal law) 2.They help in multiplying the driver's effort more times than that of Mechanical Brakes. (Hydraulic leverage ratio, hydraulic advantage) 3.The brake fluid also acts as lubricant and reduce the frictional losses at high speed braking. 4.They are simpler in construction and lighter in weight. 5.Thermal stresses generated are much lower in hydraulic brakes than Mechanical Brakes. 6.Disc brakes fade in longer time than drum brakes. Hydraulic Disc Brakes are more wear resistant. 7. Hydraulic Disc Brakes provide more braking power than hydraulic drum brakes. Mechanical efficiency is more due to greater surface area of the contact. DISADVANTAGES OF HYDRAULIC BRAKING SYSTEMS
The Braking system fails if there is a
leakage of fluid from anywhere in the brake linings. Presenceof air in the tubings ruins the whole braking system. THANK YOU
