“In Taitai, there were four hundred families and were divided into four
barangays. For each barangay, there was one datu, each of whom had
charge of a hundred inhabitants who are collectively called
CATONGOHAN”

This people always had chiefs, called by them datos, who governed
them and were captains in their wars, and whom they obeyed and
reverenced”. These chiefs ruled over a few people; sometimes as many as
a hundred houses, sometimes even less than thirty. This tribal gathering is
