Pump Power Requirement Calculation

This document presents a problem involving pumping water from a lake to a tank. The water is pumped through pipes to the tank, which needs to be filled in 1 hour. The pump suction is 0.5 meters above the lake and the outlet pressure is 5.82 atm. The mechanical efficiency of the pump is 75%. The problem asks to calculate the power requirement of the pump and its NPSH (Net Positive Suction Head) given information about the system.

Problem
Water at 25 ℃ is pumped from a lake to a tank with a
volume of 5 cubic meters. The reservoir is at atmospheric
pressure. The pump suction is 0.5 meters above the lake
reservoir and the outlet pressure is 5.82 atm. It goes through a
series of 1-in. Schedule 40 pipes before reaching the tank as
shown in the figure below. The mechanical efficiency of the
pump is 0.75 (75%). The density of water is 1000 kg/m3, and
its vapour pressure at 25oC is 3.17 kN/m2. Solve for the
power requirement of the pump and its NPSH. Note that the
tank has to be filled in 1 hour.
