Competency 1:

Demonstrate Ethical and Professional Behavior

1.1 Make ethical decisions by applying the standards of the NASW Code of
Ethics, relevant laws and regulations, models for ethical decision-making, ethical
conduct of research, and additional codes of ethics as appropriate to context.

● Referred to the NASW Code of Ethics to make any ethical decision.

● Was able to assist in an assessment, during the assessment client inform the
social worker of sexual behaviors based on the information provided to us, we
had to be careful of any facial expression and any decision making that is why
it was important to refer back to the code of ethics to make an ethical decision

● Also follow agency policies, we are not allow to disclose any information
about assessment with anyone .
1.2 Use reflection and self-regulation to manage personal values and maintain
professionalism in practice situations.

● Was able to identify language varials

● Mother was feeling upset because she didn’t know how to communicate with
social worker and tell her how she feels about the situations

● I began to feel sympathy for the women because i could tell that things were
not easy for the women and not being able to understand the social worker
without a translator must be very difficult and frustrated
1.3 Demonstrate professional demeanor in behavior; appearance; and oral,
written, and electronic communication.

● When im present in the agency I introduce myself with my full name and as a
social work intern from the UNCP.

● When i am helping the social worker with an assessment of just in the room
with the social worker and client I introduce myself the same way but i add
that i am assisting the social worker and ask if it’s okay for me to be in the
room if not, i will step out.
1.4 Use technology ethically and appropriately to facilitate practice outcomes.

● When using the agency computer or laptop I have to make sure that i am
being Hipaa compliance. And i am following the agency protocols when it
come to clients information.

● The laptop or computers desk has to be password protected

● We have to be very careful how and where we storage clients information

● If client information is paperchart, client information has to be behind two lock


door for example at the agency we use paper chart the paper charts has to be
in a lock cabinet in a locked office.
1.5 Use supervision and consultation to guide professional judgment and
behavior.

● I have only had one meeting so far with my supervisor and we talk how things
are suppose to flow in the agency and who we need to contact in case of an
emergency and she has to be out

● We also exchange number to be in contact after hours or if i had any


questions outside of work.

● When meeting with my supervisor i had to make sure that i had something to
take notes and be prepare with question or concerns that might need to
cover.
