Purpose
● Students work together to accomplish a group task
● Group tasks are structured so that each member of the group is expected to
perform an assigned task
Grouping
● Pairs- Think, Pair, Share
● Small group- Jigsaw
Teacher Role
● Assign groups and build a team
● Assign roles within the group
○ Tasks especially appropriate for ELLs include artist, visual creator, mime, or translator.
● Assign the task
● Intervene to ensure full participation
Student Role
● Complete individual duties
● Work with peers to complete task
● Report back to the class
● Debrief and examine the group process
In Class
● Research projects
● Classroom newsletters
● Planning an end of year party
