METHODS OF CLASSROOM OBSERVATION
AND RESEARCH

The next method are going to be highlighted as the


relevant ones in observation and classroom
research, also their characteristics are going to be
mentioned.
The methods are the next ones :
1. The formal experiment

2. Stimulated recall

3. Observation schemes

4. Interaction analysis
1. THE FORMAL EXPERIMENT
a. Rare method in research.
b. Comparison are established
c. The variables can intervene the results
d. The used classrooms are not authentic.
e. The results are difficult to interpret.
2. STIMULATED RECALL
a. The class is recorded and the researcher takes
notes about it.
b. Students and teacher’s reactions and actions
are analyzed.
c. How the lesson plan is developed is a point to
analyze.
d. The observed teacher watches the recording of
the class.
3. OBSERVATION SCHEMES
a. Many schemes have been developed.
b. The selected right one has to match eith the
research.
c. A remarkable scheme is the communicative
orientation of language.
d. The results can be reliable.
4. INTERACTION ANALYSIS
a. This model analyzes the discourse
b. How the language is used is the real matter.
c. The definition of roles is deep observed.
d. The relationships are well analysed.
COMPARISON BETWEEN METHODS
CONCLUSION

It has already been known that there are so many methods or


techniques that can be used for doing any research. There are
at least four methods which can be used when we want to
conduct a research on teaching and learning development;
those are formal experiment, stimulated recall, observation
schemes, and interaction analysis. Formal experiment is used
when we want to compare two or more different teaching and
learning method. Stimulated recall can be used to make
introspection on how teachers teach their students. When
researchers want to observe communicative features of
students, they can use observation scheme. If the research aim
is to know how the social relationship between students and
teachers is, researcher can use interaction analysis technique.
We have to remember that we have to choose a suitable
method before we conduct a research.
