• In modern times the emphasis is on subjective experience of a
sacred dimension[1] and the "deepest values and meanings by
which people live,"[2][3]
• Anima mundi is the concept of a "world soul" connecting all
living organisms on planet Earth.
• Hinduism[edit] Ātman is a Sanskrit word that means
inner self or soul.[53][54][55] In Hindu philosophy, especially in
the Vedanta school of Hinduism, Ātman is the first
principle,[56] the true self of an individual beyond
identification with phenomena, the essence of an individual.
In order to attain liberation (moksha), a human being must
acquire self-knowledge (atma jnana), which is to realize that
one's true self (Ātman) is identical with the transcendent
self Brahman.[54][57]

the science of behavior and mind,
including conscious and unconscious pheno
mena, as well as feeling and thought. It is
an academic discipline, seek an
understanding of the emergent properties
of brains, and all the variety
of epiphenomena they manifest.
• Psychologists explore behavior and mental
processes,
including perception, cognition, attention, e
motion (affect), intelligence, phenomenology
, motivation (conation), brain functioning,
and personality. Psychology has been
described as a "hub science" in
that medicine tends to draw psychological
research via neurology and psychiatry,
whereas social sciences most commonly
draws directly from sub-disciplines within
psychology.[4]
Psychology Originally
The word psychology derives from Greek roots meaning study
of the psyche, or soul (ψυχή psychē, "breath, spirit, soul"
and -λογία -logia, "study of" or
"research").[8] The Latin word psychologia was first used
by the Croatian humanist and Latinist Marko Marulić in
his book, Psichiologia de ratione animae humanae in the
late 15th century or early 16th century.[9] The earliest
known reference to the word psychology in English was
by Steven Blankaart in 1694 in The Physical
Dictionary which refers to "Anatomy, which treats the
Body, and Psychology, which treats of the Soul."[10]
• In 1890, William James defined psychology as "the
science of mental life, both of its phenomena and their
conditions". This definition enjoyed widespread currency
for decades. However, this meaning was contested,
notably by radical behaviorists such as John B. Watson,
who in his 1913 manifesto defined the discipline of
psychology as the acquisition of information useful to
the control of behavior. Also since James defined it, the
term more strongly connotes techniques of scientific
experimentation.[11][12]

Cognition
• Cognition is "the mental action or process of
acquiring knowledge and understanding through
thought, experience, and the senses".[1] It
encompasses processes such as attention, the
formation of knowledge, memory and working
memory, judgment and evaluation, reasoning and
"computation", problem solvingand decision
making, comprehension and production
of language. Cognitive processes use existing
knowledge and generate new knowledge.
• The processes are analyzed from different
perspectives within different contexts, notably in
the fields
of linguistics, anesthesia, neuroscience, psychiatry
, psychology, education, philosophy, anthropology,
biology, systemics, logic, and computer
science.[2] These and other different approaches to
the analysis of cognition are synthesised in the
developing field of cognitive science, a progressively
autonomous academic discipline.

Cognitive Restructuring
• Cognitive restructuring (CR) is
a psychotherapeutic process of learning to identify
and dispute irrational or maladaptive thoughts
known as cognitive distortions,[1] such as all-or-
nothing thinking (splitting), magical thinking, over-
generalization, magnification,[1] and emotional
reasoning, which are commonly associated with
many mental health disorders.[2] CR employs many
strategies, such as Socratic questioning, thought
recording, and guided imagery, and is used in many
types of therapies, including cognitive behavioral
therapy (CBT) and rational emotive behaviour
therapy (REBT). A number of studies demonstrate
considerable efficacy in using CR-based therapies.[3
• Cognitive restructuring, also known as cognitive
reframing, is a technique drawn from cognitive
therapy that can help people identify, challenge and
alter stress-inducing thought patterns and beliefs.
