FLUTTER
01
KICK
• Flutter kick is the alternating up and down
motion of the legs, either from the hips or as the
more restricted movement of the modified flutter
kick, and is the most frequently used finning
technique.
• Flutter kick is easy to learn and is the technique
most commonly taught to learner divers
02
Dolphin kick
• Dolphin kick is the technique where
both legs are moved up and down
together, and may be done with paired
fins or monofins
• It is a powerful technique and capable of
producing high trust, though it requires
high energy and stamina
03 FROG KICK
• Is a propulsion kick used particularly by
cave divers, wreck divers
• Similar to the swimming action of a frog
• Simultaneous and lateral mirrored
action of both legs.
• The diver is ought to swim horizontally.

SCISSORS
4 KICK
• Is an asymmetrical stroke also known
as split kick.
• Combines characteristics of flutter
kick, in that the stroke is up and down,
and the frog kick, in that most of the
power is generated in the closing part
of the stroke,
• Powerful thruster, but not very fast.
0 BACK
5 KICK
• Aka reverse kick/back finning/reverse
fin/ reverse frog kick
• Used for holding position or
backing away when too close while
taking photos or approaching reed or
other divers, backing out of confined
spaces, maintaining distance
• Requires fairly stiff paddle fins to
be reasonably effective
• Difficult technique to master

STROKE
01 FREESTYLE
STROKE
• Assume a prone position in the water
• Your arms executing alternating movements.
One arm moves backwards in the water from
an overhead position towards the hip and
provides propulsion. The other arm recovers
above water from the hip towards the
overhead position. Afterwards, your arms
exchange their roles.
02
Breaststroke
• Is the most popular swim stroke
• Both arms execute half-circular arm
movements at the same time under water in
front of the swimmer.
• Often the first swimming stroke taught to
beginners.
• Beginner can keep their head above the water.
• Slowest of the competitive strokes
03 BUTTERFLY
stroke
• Stands out among the competitive strokes
because of its unique and spectacular
technique.
• Uses a symmetrical stroke with an above
water recovery.
• Uses wave-like body undulation and a dolphin
kick.
04
BACKSTROKE
• Swum on the back
• Uses alternating circular arm movements and
an above water recovery
• The legs execute flutter kick similar to the one
used in freestyle
• Used in competitive events regulated by FINA
• Has the advantage of easy breathing but
disables the swimmers to see where they are
going
