The people from Australia are called “Australians”, but there is some people that
rather calling them “Aussie”.
AUSTRALIAN COIN.
The australian coin is the australian dollar, it is the official coin since 1966 when took
the place from the australian pound, it counts with bills of 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 and
coins of 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents and 1 and 2 dollars, it’s value in 0,67 USD and
13.18 mexican pesos.
NATIONAL CAPITAL CITY.
The national capital city of Australia is Canberra, is counts with 345,000 habitants, it
is located in the north part of the country, at 300 kilometers from Sidney and 650
kilometers from Melburne.
TRADITIONS.
Some of the most important traditions in Australia are:
Christmas.
In Australia christmas is celebrated in the summer and every family has their own
personal traditions.
Anzac day:
It is celebrated on april 25, in this day the people honor the australians that have
died in wars.
Australian day:
This holiday commemorates the anniversary of the day in 1788 when the english
declared Australia a new colony.
TIPYCAL FOOD.
Australia counts with a lot of dishes but the most popular are:
Chicken parmigiana:
It’s a chicken schnitzel and pasta topped with tomato sauce melted cheese and sometimes
prosciutto ham.
Lamingtons:
Is a modest square-shaped sponge dipped in chocolate and coated with desiccated coconut.
Pavlova:
The plavova is a crispy meringue crust, with light fruit filling and whipped cream topping.
FLORA AND FAUNA
Australia has more than 1 million species between flora and fauna, the most popular
are:
FAUNA:
Red kangaroo: is the largest marsupial in the world, the males can reach a height of
2 meters while females are considerably smaller.
Koala: the tree-dwelling marsupial koala can be found in gum tree forests and
woodlands. It lives in tall eucalypts within a home range of several hectares.
Emu: The largest of Australian birds, the emu stands up to 2m high and is the second
largest bird in the world.
A large, squat marsupial, the Australian common wombat is a burrowing mammal
found in coastal forests and mountain ranges, it was considered extinct until relatively
recently
FLORA:
Billy buttons: Billy buttons are attractive Australian native plants that are widespread
throughout eastern NSW in dry forest The golden-yellow globe-shaped flowers are
an erect herb growing to a height of 50cm.
Black sheoak: Growing to a height of 5-15m, these hardy Australian native plants can
survive in poor or sandy soils.
Bluberry ash: The blueberry ash is a rainforest shrub which produces blue olive-
shaped berries and spectacular bell-shaped flowers.
