Wind0w XP is an operating system. It provide graphical user

interface environment to work on it.it used widely in operating
system in the world.
Graphical user interface (GUI)
In GUI most of the functions based on mouse.
user allow to interact visual images like icons buttons menu.
 OPERATING SYSTEM

Operating system is the software utilized to run and manage

programs and functions on computer.
The software that provide a platform of programs .
Without an operating system your laptop is just a box and
don’t know how to communicate with you and others.
And window is a operating system so window is most
important for using computer.

launched in 1985.
And named window 1.0. Microsoft actually named it after the
“windows” which were still used to display content on the
screen.

Microsoft was founded by BILL GATES and PAUL ALLEN 0n
ARIL 4, 1975.
• The history of windows dates back to 1981.
That time Microsoft work started work on a program called “inter
face”
Announced in nov 1983 under the name windows but window
was to released until nov 1985.

Microsoft windows is a complete operating system. now Discussing the

features of window operating system.
MULTITASKING : capability of an operating system to load multiple
programs into memory at one time and to perform two or more
processes.
Example : Such as printing a document while editing another also
known as multitasking.
MULTIPROCESSING : in this feature more than ne processor solve a
problem at a same time. A big problem divided into small components
and these components multiple processor at same time. MULTI-
USERE OPERATING SYSTEM : this feature allow to multiple users
to use the same computer at same or different time.
PLUG AND PLAY : it automatically detects and install the software
for the device.
NETW0RKING : window is fully equipped with network support.

Startup is general term used t0 describe the process of preparing

the computer,
Operating system, for operations.
START UP:
The windows start menu is a list f tins when you click the start
button at the lower left corner f your desktop.
After open the menu the menu provide more tins like this.
PROGRAMES:
Steps.
Click start button to open start menu.

select programs to open program menu.

DOCUMENTS:
This menu provides you the most recent documents.
Steps.
Click start button to open start menu.
Select d0cuments to open the documents menu.
Click an item to open it.
SETTINGS:
This menu provides you the setting of your computer like
hardware and software.
Steps.

Select setting to open the list 0f setting option.
Click an item to open it.
SEARCH:
This menu provides you an option for searching the file and
folders of your computer.
Steps.
Click start button to open start menu.
Select search to open the search menu and view all options.
Click an item to open it (my d0cuments, mu computer etc.)

HELP:
This option provides you the online help of windows from more
optins.
Steps.
• Click help to open the help window.
• Click on tab to open it.
SHUT DOWN:
You need to shut down window before you turn 0ff. In this way you
can save your work.to avoid damaging your files always shut your
computer.
Steps.
• Click start button to open start menu.
• Click turn 0ff computer option to open dialogue box.
Select desire option.
Click 0k.
 FILES AND FOLDERS

FILE:
File contain data and programs. Program file can be any
software or file like MS WORD, MS EEXCEL.
Data file can be in the letters and work sheets etc..
FOLDERS:
A folder is like a drawer in a cabinet in which related
files are organized into different categories.
Window XP folder has files and subfolders as well, it
mean a main folder can anther folders in it.by double
clicking the folder we can see files in the folder.
