CHAPTER -3 OPERATING SYSYEM (OS) - WINDOWS 7

POINTS TO BE NOTED :

1. Windows is the most popular operating system. Windows is the software that helps you
to operate your computer and work on other application software.
2. Windows 7, Window 10 -- popular & latest Operating System.
3. BOOTING 🡪 when you switch on your computer, windows automatically get start and
get loaded into computer memory.
4. DESKTOP 🡪 the first screen appears on the monitor after booting.
5. ICONS 🡪Small graphics picture with label (name) on them.
6. TASKBAR 🡪Long rectangular bar appears at the bottom of the screen.
7. START BUTTON 🡪Locate at the left of taskbar. It is used to find and open programs.
Also used to shutdown.
8. SEARCH BAR 🡪 helps us to search programs or files
9. FILES 🡪 When you save any information on your computer, it stored in the form of file.
A file may be a video, a song, a picture, a letter.
10. FOLDER 🡪 Folder may contain several types of different files and even other folders.
11. To Start a Program: Click Start button 🡪All Programs 🡪 Accessories 🡪Notepad.
Now you notice a box appears...that box is called window.

13. Title bar 🡪display name of the window


Menu bar 🡪 contain many menus
Scroll bar 🡪 helps to move the window
14. Window Control button : Minimize, Maximize, Restore , Close
15. Minimize : hide the window on the taskbar
Maximize: increases the size to cover the entire screen
Restore: after maximize a window, use Restore button to restore a window to its original
size.
