INTRODUCTION

Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) aims to provide

more reliable data on the real conditions of a structure
observe its evolution and detect the appearance of
new degradations.
Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are a rapidly
growing technology.
• Bluetooth;
• Zigbee;
• Wireless USB;
• Wi-Fi.

CARGO SECURING ON SHIPS

Not proper cargo

securing could be IMO Res. A.714(17) –
“Code of Safe Practice for
dangerous Cargo Stowage and
Securing” (CSS Code).

CONCLUSIONS

• In the model basin of TU a real problem of monitoring

the tension of lashings of secured cargo was
successfully modelled and tested;

• There have been successful tests with the wireless

module based on the technology Bluetooth, with
achieving a very good match (both phase and
amplitude) of the results with an alternative system for
recording and wireless data transmission

CONCLUSIONS
Further Development
• Development of industrial design of a compact unit
containing stress sensor and module for wireless
data transmission;

• Establishment of a system for monitoring especially

responsible and loaded marine structures, through a
preliminary FEM analysis to localize problem areas
and an installation of above mentioned unit for
monitoring these areas;
