CURRENT TREND ON EVM - 80% of people in developing countries worldwide depend on indigenous practices on the prevention of animal and human diseases (WHO). - Traditional and Alternative Act of 1997 was created to improve the quality and delivery of health care services to the Filipinos( including animals). PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF HERBAL MEDICINES 1. DECOCTION (De)- boiling of water in 15-20 minutes or until water volume is halved then strain and cool. 2. Infusion(In)- pouring of hot or cold water into a plant material and allow to stand while tightly covered, stand for 5-15 minutes if hot and 12-24 hours if cold, then filter. 3. Powder (Pw)- pounding and grinding of dried plant materials and sift to get the required particle size ( coarse, intermediate or fine. PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF HERBAL MEDICINES 4. Juice(J)-pounding of fresh plant materials and filter through a fine piece of cloth, or may just squeeze the plant parts to extract the juice. 5. Poultice or paste(Pt) – grinding the plant material( dried or fresh) with a little oil, water, molasses or honey or may or may not be spread on a square of warm cloth or banana trunk, an applied to the skin. 6. Bolus(B)- pounding plant materials and add sufficient binding agent(honey or molasses) and rolled into a ball. PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF HERBAL MEDICINES 7.Tincture (T)- botanical extract made with alcohol; 1 part of herb: 5 parts distilled spirits and infused for 6 weeks.

semi-liquid preparation through the mouth. May use bamboo tube, soft drink bottle, syringe sans needle, or medicine dropper.
