SOP for the DBS3900 Hardware Upgrade (Ver.B/Ver.C to Ver.D_E)
The DBS3900 (Ver.D_B) is a Huawei outdoor distributed base station. It can be located on a grassland or concrete floor at the rooftop, and
RRUs can be installed on a pole.
Typical configurations:
Before the upgrade, the base station is configured with RRUs, one DCDU-03B, one BBU3900/BBU3910, and one EMUb.
After the upgrade, the base station is configured with additional RRU5258 3pcs, one DCDU-12B, one BBU3900/BBU3910, and one
EMUb also additional BVDC (APU02D)
Typical environment: Heating equipment is required for the storage batteries in cold areas, as shown in the following figure.
Prerequisites:
1. The antenna system is reused.
2. The power supply system is reused.
3. The grounding system is reused.
4. The transmission system is reused.
5. The environment monitoring system is reused.
Requirements for the Environment, Health, Safety (EHS): The installation personnel must wear safety helmets, anti-skid shoes, and
goggles before entering the site.

Procedure and Precautions

Replace the door
1. Put on an ESD wrist strap or a pair of ESD gloves.

2. Check whether there is a barcode label starting with 212102 on the inner left
wall of the cabinet, as shown by illustration 1 in figure 1.
-If there is such a barcode label on the inner left wall of the cabinet, proceed with
the next step.
-If there is no such a barcode label on the inner left wall of the cabinet, record
the number on the barcode label (shown by illustration 2 in figure 1) that is stuck
on the front door, and stick a barcode label carrying the same number to the
position shown by illustration 1 in figure 1.

Remove the monitoring signal cable for the fan in the front door from the transfer
box, as shown in figure 2.
Remove the equipotential cable between the door and the inner wall of the
cabinet, as shown in figure 3.
5 Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove two hinges on the front door, and remove
the front door, as shown in figure 4.

5. Install a new front door, and tighten the six M4 screws for hinges to 1.2 N·m
(10.62 lbf·in.), as shown in figure 5.

6. Connect the other end of the equipotential cable to the ground screw on the
inner wall of the cabinet.

Replace the fan
1
Remove the FAN 02A and its cables,
and install a FAN02E
1. Put on an ESD wrist strap or a pair of ESD gloves.

2. Optional: Remove the fan assembly power cable to power off the fan
assembly. Skip this step if this cable has been disconnected during the
replacement of the front door.

3. Remove the fan assembly.


Record the cable connections on the fan assembly, and remove the
cables.
Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the four screws from both
mounting ears of the fan assembly, and then pull the fan assembly out
2 of the cabinet along the guide rails gently, as shown in figure 1.

4. Place the removed fan assembly into the ESD box or bag.

5. Install a new fan assembly. Slide the new fan assembly into the
installation position and tighten the four M6x12 screws on the mounting
ears on both sides of the fan assembly, and tighten the screws to 2
N•m (17.70 lbf•in.), as shown in figure 2.

Install BVDC
Lay out DC input power cables
1. Prepare input power cables for the APM30H.
Cut the cables to the length suitable for the actual cable route.
Add an M6 OT terminal to one end of the cables on the EPU
side.

2. Lay out the input power cables for the APM30H, as shown in
the figure "Routing of the AC input power cables."
Route the power cables for the APM30H into the cabinet along
the left side of the cabinet, and use cable ties to bind the cables
properly.

3. Install BVDC (EPU02D) at the bottom of BBU.

Replace ELU 1. Wear an ESD wrist strap or a pair of ESD gloves.

2. Remove the ELU.


ELU a. Remove the cable connecting to the RJ45 port from the top of the ELU.
b. Press the buckle at the ELU bottom, pull the housing of the ELU, and push the

1 housing of the ELU upwards according to the arrow direction.
c. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the two M4x8 screws from the ELU, as
shown in figure 2.

3. Place the removed ELU into an ESD box or bag.

4. Install a new ELU.


a. Place the new ELU at the installation position and use two M4x8 screws to
secure it with a torque of 1.2 N·m (10.62 lbf·in.).
b. Reinstall the housing for the ELU.

5. After powering on the cabinet, ask the element management system (EMS)
administrator to query the electronic label information of the cabinet. Then, check
whether the information is consistent with the nameplate in the upgrade package.
If the information is consistent, the ELU has been successfully installed. If the
information is inconsistent, the ELU has not been installed successfully. In this
case, locate the cause and reinstall the ELU.

Install signal cables
1. Install the monitoring signal cable for the door status sensor, as shown by S1 in
figure 1.
Connect one end of the monitoring signal cable for the door status sensor to the

1 GATE port on the fan assembly. Use a screwdriver to press the bulge of the
connector, insert the bare wire of the cable into the connector, and then move the
screwdriver away to secure the cable. as shown in figure 2.
Connect bare wire at the other end of the signal cable to the door status sensor.
2. Optional: Install the CCUB-BBU monitoring signal cables, as shown by S2 in
figure 1. If no BBU is installed in this cabinet, skip this step.
Connect the RJ45 connectors on the first monitoring signal cable to the
COM_IN/U_COM0 port on the CCUB and the MON0 port on the UPEU in the
BBU.
Connect the RJ45 connectors on the second monitoring signal cable to the
COM_OUT/U_COM1 port on the CCUB and the MON1 port on the UPEU in the
BBU.
3. Install the ELU signal cable, as shown by S3 in figure 1.
Connect one end of the signal cable with an RJ45 connector to the port on the top
of the ELU.
Connect the other end of the monitoring signal cable with an RJ45 connector to
the ELU port on the fan assembly.
4. Install the monitoring signal transfer cable for the fan in the front door, as shown
by S4 in figure 1.
Connect one end of the monitoring signal cable for the fan in the front door to its
transfer terminal.
Connect the other end of the monitoring signal cable with a 4-pin connector to the
FAN_EXT port on the FAN02E.
5. Optional: Install the EMUA monitoring signal cable, as shown by S5 in figure 1.
Connect one end of the monitoring signal cable with a DB9 male connector to the
RS485 port on the EMUA, and tighten the screws to 0.4 N·m (3.54 lbf·in.).
Connect the other end of the monitoring signal cable with an RJ45 connector to
the MON1-1/D_COM1-1 port on the CCUB.

Component changes

Determine whether the RFUs need to be replaced based on the actual requirements.

Replace fan • Replacing a fan assembly interrupts heat dissipation of the cabinet and therefore may cause
overtemperature alarms. In this case, services carried by the base station may be affected. For example,
RFUs may stop working due to an excessively high temperature.
• Replacing a fan assembly takes about 10 minutes.
• You need to use a handle during the replacement. The handle is placed in the slot at the upper right inside

1. Turn off the FAN switch on the DCDU-01 and remove the power cable for the
fan assembly.
2. Record the monitoring signal cable connection on the panel of the fan
assembly, and then remove the cable.
3. Cut off the cable ties on the cable trough.
4. Loosen the captive screws in the front of the adjustable cable trough, and lift the
adjustable cable trough.

5. Remove the four M6 screws on the fan assembly, use the handle to pull the fan
assembly outwards till one-third of its length. Support the bottom of the fan
assembly with the other hand and pull it until it is completely removed from the
cabinet. Then, place the fan assembly into an ESD box.

6. Install a new fan assembly, and tighten the four M6x12 screws to 3 N·m (26.55
lbf·in.).
7. Install the adjustable cable trough to the original position, and secure the
captive screws in the front of it.
8. Reconnect the monitoring signal cable to the port on the panel of the new fan
assembly based on the label.

Replace ELU 1. Use a screwdriver to remove the two M6 screws from the filler panel and
remove the filler panel.
2. Record the ELU signal cable connection and then remove the cable.
3. Remove the two M4 screws on the ELU and remove the ELU.

1 4. Take out a new ELU, and make sure the ELU is right.
5. Use two M4 screws to install the new ELU onto the filler panel,
6. Connect the ELU signal cable to the ELU.
7. Tighten the two M6x12 screws to secure the filler panel in the cabinet to 3 N·m
(26.55 lbf·in.).
8. Ask the element management system (EMS) administrator to query the
electronic label information of the cabinet. Then check whether the information is
consistent with the nameplate in the upgrade package. If the information is
consistent, the ELU has been successfully installed. If the information is
inconsistent, the ELU has not been installed successfully. In this case, locate the
cause and reinstall the ELU.

Installing floating nuts
Floating nuts on the columns are used for securing each module.

1 1. Ensure that the six floating nuts marked by red circles are well installed. If any
one is missing, install a new one.

2. If any floating nut in the 2 U space at the bottom of the cabinet is missed, install
a new one and then use a flat-head screwdriver to tighten the six M6×16 screws.

Installing floating nuts

1 1. Ensure that the six floating nuts marked by red circles are well installed. If any
one is missing, install a new one.

2. If any floating nut in the 2 U space at the bottom of the cabinet is missed, install
a new one and then use a flat-head screwdriver to tighten the six M6×16 screws.

Installing the monitoring signal cable for the fan assembly
(optional)
Check whether a signal cable has been installed between the fan assembly and the BBU. If it has been

1 installed, skip this step. If it has not been installed, install it based on the actual scenario, as indicated by
the following table

Connect the RJ45 connector at one end of the fan assembly monitoring signal cable
Single cabinet to the COM IN port on the fan assembly, and the RJ45 connector at the other end to
the MON0 port on the UPEU in the BBU.
Connect the RJ45 connector at one end of the fan assembly monitoring signal cable
Cabinets installed side to the COM IN port on the fan assembly in the primary cabinet, and the RJ45
by side or stacked connector at the other end to the MON0 port on the UPEU in the BBU in the primary
cabinet.
