The Nature of
Inquiry
Objectives:
The students will be able to:
 To describe the nature of inquiry by doing
mind mapping
 Collaborate with the group they belong
by sharing their ideas on the topic chosen
of the group.
 To give Yes clap on each presentation of
the group.
Group Activity: Let’s Think (Mind
Map)
 Think of your general main theme and write
that down in the center of the page. i.e. Food
 Figure out sub-themes of your main concept
and draw branches to them from the center,
beginning to look like a spider web i.e. Meats,
Dairy, Breads
 Make sure to use very short phrases or even
single words
 Add images to invoke thought or get the
message across better
 Try to think of at least two main points for each
sub-theme you created and create branches out
to those

 Meaning
 Facts
 Information
 Careful examination of data
 Analysis
Thinking strategies(LO-HOTS)
 Inferential thinking
 Critical thinking
 Integrative thinking
 Creative thinking
(top level thinking strategies for an
active learning process)
Inferential thinking
 is the ability to process
written information and
understand the
underlying meaning of
the text.
Critical Thinking
the objective analysis
and evaluation of an
issue in order to form
a judgment.
Integrative Thinking
 Isthe ability to face constructively
the tension of opposing ideas and,
instead of choosing one at the
expense of the other, generate a
creative resolution of the tension in
the form of a new idea that contains
elements of the opposing ideas but
is superior to each."
- Roger Martin
Creative Thinking
 An Essential Skill for the 21st
Century.
 It is a way to look at and solve
problems from a different
perspective, avoiding orthodox
solutions and thinking outside

Governing principles of Inquiry

John Dewey’s Theory

of connected
experiences for
exploratory and
reflective thinking

Lev Vygotsky’s Zone of
Proximal Development
(ZPD) that stresses the
essence of provocation and
scaffolding in learning;

Jerome Bruner’s theory

on learner’s varied
world perceptions for
their own interpretative
thinking of people and
things around them
 Inquiry is a way to acquire
information about people,
things, events, places. This is an
effective way of learning
process. Being inquisitive
needs to have the HOTS
thinking.
APPLICATION
“WHO’S WHO?
 Each group will receive a copy of
Inferential Activity.
 Groups will collaboratively answer
the question “Which job does each
man perform?”.
 After the time, the chart will be
collected or posted on board.
Evaluation
Each group will present the
accomplished task through
reporting in front of the
