Introduction to topic
• Empowerment is an act of giving a group of people more
freedom or power to do what they want to. Empowering them
simply means giving them opportunities and facilities.
• Why for women?
• Nowadays many organizations are focusing more attention on
women artisan.
• It is believed that-when opportunity is given to women, they
represent to the global economy.
• Women’s Empowerment Center is an institution which
educates disadvantaged women, teaching handcrafted goods
and business skills.
• An institute which enhance the feminism through their art
skill.
Need and Problem Identifications
• Need - based on the problems faced by socialist like artisan
Ruma Devi and her organization where local women are
trained and empowered, which lack well designed facility
center at Barmer, Rajasthan.

• They aim to look forward for such center at Jaipur where


they will provide appropriate training for skill development
and their links with the market.

• The urban Indian fashions are increasingly embracing our


traditional heritage, the market is spreading globally.

• It demands a platform where these women artisan work on


trending market demands and innovation to upgrade artisan
skills and get better job opportunities.
Issues
• Social issues-

• the women artisan do not have inadequate opportunities to grab market’s attention.

• the artisan are paid less than what their art deserves because of middlemen.

• Environmental issues-

• Climate- Jaipur has a hot semi-arid climate.

• Summer-with an average temperature extending over 45 degree C

• Winter- temperature cools only for 3 months.

• Challenge is the design should be responsive to its environmental conditions.

• Materials-local material is also where one need to focus on. Some of local sandstone,
kota stone floor, etc.
• Architectural issues

• No proper institution are designed with required facilities which represents


the Indian traditional art.

• The changing culture of architecture in modern India in cities like Jaipur


which represents traditional style of architecture is quite challenging in
terms of life-style and profession.

• Productivity of space and the environment is the main need and problem for
commercial sector because of less interest in intricate and detailed work.

• An institute that demonstrates feminism through its spaces.


Aims and Objectives
• Aim-

• To design a building that blends the Indian tradition and heritage with the
fashion center to facilitate the work of women artisan and promote it at
national and international level.

• Objectives-

• To study and understand the need that could improve the effective
functioning of the space and give adequate consideration to the culture.

• Analyze the facilities that affect the usage of the spaces.

• Conceptualize and refresh the style of institute to better engage and aware
the public.

• To design a center which create comfortable environment for the community


women to learn and be empowered for better productivity.
Scopes and Limitation
• Scope-

• The concepts and techniques utilized in the design can be used to enhance
the design possibilities in terms of sustainable architecture.

• To study the traditional built forms of Jaipur, for adaption in contemporary


design practice which will not only accomplish the functional aspects but
also reflect its culture.

• Limitation-

• The main focus will be on function and planning.

• Design will be limited to sustainable architecture but not the sustainable


energy consumption detail.

• Designing of such inviting space will be limited to only its design and
constructional details

• A dedicated exhibition for display of their apparels for customer driven act
to sell maximum products.
