Fires
Is one of the component of warfighting function
Form part of the Maneuver support component of the
Combined Arms Team (CATms).
Fires support maneuver by destroying a adversary and
providing a wide area protection.
It provides collective and coordinated use of indirect
fires, air and missile defense, and joint fires through the
targeting process.
Definition of Terms
Fires
Components of Fires:
a. Field Artillery – provides close fires and counter-fires
capability to support maneuver; deep fires to extend
fires capabilities; and interdiction fire to protect the
force.
b. Air Defense Artillery – provides defensive capabilities to
destroy aerial targets or missile, or reduce or nullify
effectiveness of such attack either through surveillance
actions or active engagements.

Fire Support
Fire support is the collective and coordinated use of indirect
fire weapons, armed aircraft, and other lethal and non-lethal
means in support of a battle plan.

which close with the enemy such as infantry and armor
units, rendered by delivering artillery and mortar fire,
naval gunfire, and close air support (CAS).
Fire support may also be provided by tanks, air defense
artillery and army aviation.

Purpose:
to support scheme of maneuver,
to mass fire power and to delay,
disrupt or destroy enemy forces in depth
destroys, neutralizes and suppresses

LEVELS OF DESTRUCTIVE EFFECT:
