OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND
SAFETY (OHS) PROCEDURES
INTRODUCTION
Aside from safety of all guests, safety and security of all
employees are among the topmost priorities of hotels and
lodging establishments. Workplaces are expected to comply
with provisions stipulated under the occupational safety and
health (OHS) standards that deal with the social, mental,
and physical well-being of employees in all occupations.
OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY
PROCEDURES, PRACTICES, AND REGULATIONS
• Occupational Safety and Health center(OSHC) - tasked to
protect Filipino employees against occupational accidents
and illness and to promote their welfare through effective
programas that will enhance their productivity.
PROVISIONS IN THE OSHC
Registration
-hospitality industry establishments should operate as
a legal business with proper coordination with the Regional
labor Office.

Security of premises
-installation of adequate safety signs, symbols, and
instructions is a standard requirement for every
establishment.

-this standard establishes the allowable limit values of
toxic substances and physical agents that can cause harm
to the health of the guests and employees specifically for
those who work in the kitchen.

(PPE) helps reduce the exposure of employees to hazards
caused by heat, noise chemicals, electrical, and

packaging of the products and reducing waste toxicity.

Recycle -a process of recovering and convering materials


that can be used as raw materials to produce another new
product.

WAYS TO CONTROL HAZARDS
• Use personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Implement engineering controls that includes modification
in process, enclosure, or isolation of emission source and
ventilation.
• Implement administrative controls that involves work
schedules, policies and practices, education and training,
good housekeeping, and emergency preparedness.
• Eliminate or remove hazards from the workplace.

Contigency Measures and Procedures
Contingency Plan - a worst-case scenario plan, back
up plan, or disaster recovery plan; it is a secondary
coourse of action that can be implemented in the
event that the primary approach fails to function as it
should.
