ICOMERA 2018 6
Crucial Aspect in adding VAM
• Machine construction and system
Simulation and experimental study require to evaluate rigidity, mass, and
damping in order to obtain the natural frequency of the entire construction
• Actuator Selection
The assembly between actuator as part of VAM and the machine requires in
order uphold the static and dynamic load during machining.
• Types of VAM
The types influence the tool-workpiece separation pattern especially for VAM
placed at the workpiece.
• Types of material and product complexity
Different material has different machinability and require different parameter
set up during machining with VAM, that also applied for different product
complexity.

ICOMERA 2018 7
VAM BENEFIT
• Decrease machining forces
• Improve machined surface quality

ICOMERA 2018 8
Conclusion
• The relationship between machining parameter(feed
rate & depth of cut) and vibration control parameter
(frequency & amplitude) influenced the most
toward the machined surface quality
• Natural frequency and constraints from the existing
machine must be obtained before VAM placement
• 2D VAM Non-resonant at workpiece research is still
widely open and prospected to be developed
