OSMOSIS AND

DIFFUSION

By NITANT
diffusion
 Diffusion is the net passive movement of
particles (atoms, ions or molecules) from a
region in which they are in higher concentration
to regions of lower concentration. It continues
until the concentration of substances is uniform
throughout.
 Passive Diffusion. Passive diffusion is the
movement of molecules across a semi-permeable
membrane without the help of protein
channels. ... Facilitated Diffusion. ... Osmosis. ...
Osmotic Conditions
osmosis
 a process by which molecules of a solvent tend
to pass through a semipermeable membrane
from a less concentrated solution into a more
concentrated one
 the three types of osmotic conditions that affect
living cells are called hypertonic, hypotonic, and
isotonic states. These terms describe the osmotic
state of the solution that surrounds a cell, not the
solution inside the cell. Hypertonic conditions
cause water to diffuse out of the cell, making the
cell shrivel.
