Passive Transport usually takes

place by
1.Diffusion
2.Facilitated Diffusion
3.Osmosis
What is Diffusion?
•Diffusion is the net movement of
(molecules,ions,atoms or particles) from a
region of high concentration to a region of
low concentration resulting in the uniform
distribution of the substances.
•Movement of molecules through Lipid
bilayer or channel proteins.
What is Osmosis?
•Osmosis is the movement of water molecules
from a region of higher concentration to a region
of lower concentration through semi permeable
membrane OR
•It can be defined as movement of water
molecules from low solute concentration to high
solute concentration through semi permeable
membrane.
Facilitated Diffusion is a form of Passive
Transport in which molecules are
transported across a plasma membrane
with the help of membrane (carrier
proteins)
•Protein channels allow large or polar
molecules to pass through the
selectively permeable cell
membrane through facilitated diffusion.
