International Organization

An international organization
(intergovernmental organization) is
an organization established by a
treaty or other instrument governed
by international law and possessing
its own international legal
personality.
The Union of International Associations
It is a coordinating body that is divided into two major
categories:
International Governmental Association
-more than 250 which have been established by
intergovernmental agreements and whose members are
states
Nongovernmental organizations
approximately 6,000 whose members are associations or
individuals.
United Nations (UN) - is the largest and most familiar
intergovernmental organization function: preserve
internatiomal peace and security
North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)-developed for
multiple tasks function: guarantee the freedom and security
of its members through political and military means.
World Meteorological Association (WMO) - collecting
information and monitoring trend
World Health Organization- delivering services and aid
World Trade Organization (WTO) -settling disputes
European Union (EU) -providing forums for bargaining
International Monetary Fund-foster global monetary
cooperation, secure financial stability, facilitate international
trade, promote high employment and sustainable economic
growth, and reduce poverty around the world.
