THE DEFINITION
OF MULTIPLE
REGRESSION
Multiple regression is an
extension of simple linear
regression. It is used
when we want to predict
the value of a variable
based on the value of two
or more other variables.
The variable we want to
predict is called the
dependent variable (or
sometimes, the outcome,
target or criterion
variable).
Y = α + β1 X2 + β2 X2 + βn Xn + e The

01. LINEAR MULTIPLE
REGRESSION

This Regression is a multiple regression model if the variable has interval

or ratio data (quantitative or numeric).
While the variables in general also have interval or ratio data. But there’s
also linear regression where the variable uses a nominal or ordinal data
scale, which is more commonly referred to as the dummy data. So linear
regression like that, is called the term linear regression with dummy
variables.
02. LOGISTICS MULTIPLE
REGRESSION

Logistics multiple regression is a multiple regression model if the dependent

variable is dichotomous data. Dichotomy means in the form of categories with a
total of 2 categories.

Examples of this type of multiple regression are: The effect of smoking and sex on
the incidence of lung cancer.

There are two methods that are often used in this type of multiple regression,
namely the logit and probit methods.
03. ORDINAL multiple
REGRESSION

This type of multiple regression is a regression analysis

where the dependent variable is ordinal scale data. While
the independent variables are generally also ordinal, but it
doesn’t matter if the variables with other data scales, both
quantitative and qualitative. The uniqueness of this
regression is, that if the independent variable is
categorical or qualitative data, it is called a factor.
Meanwhile, if numeric or quantitative data, it is referred
to as covariates.
04. MULTINOMIAL multiple
REGRESSION

Multinomial multiple regression is a type of regression where the

dependent variable is nominal data with a number of categories of
more than 2 (two) and the independent variable is more than one
variable.
This regression is also similar to ordinal regression, only the
difference in the scale of data in this regression is not stratified (not
ordinal) or in other words there is no better or worse.
05. PANEL DATA MULTIPLE
regression

From the types above, in fact there are still other types
which are the development of the types above, namely the
complexity of time series data or time series, or panel data.
As happened in panel data regression or cochrane orcutt
regression.
