Common and Proper

Nouns
• A noun is a word that names a person,
place, thing, or idea.
• A common noun names any person, place,
thing or idea. Common nouns are not
capitalized, unless they come at the
beginning of a sentence.
• Examples:

• teacher baseball city

Proper Nouns
• A proper noun names a particular person,
place, thing, or idea. Proper nouns are
always capitalized.
• Examples:

• Mrs. Boyd Atlanta Braves New York
