THE SECOND WORLD WAR
On the ~5 September, 1939 UK joined in The Second
World War. On this day Winston Churchill became First
Lord of the Admiralty. There is a legend that on that
day the naval bases of Britain exchanged messages "

Despite the fact that on land after the defeat of the
Polish army and the surrender of Poland, active
hostilities were not conducted, there was a so-called
"strange war", the fighting at sea almost immediately
moved into an active phase.
CRITIC
• His tenure as home Secretary was one of the most difficult and
controversial stages in Churchill's political career. Churchill's actions to
quell the riots were repeatedly harshly criticized from all sides of the
political spectrum, moreover, as home Secretary, he was responsible
even in cases where he personally did not interfere in any way.
