Procedures for Data Collection
• After selecting an area of interest in reading:
1. Administer a pre-test according to the area of interest in
reading.
(For example, if testing for reading comprehension, use an
Informal Reading Inventory for the evaluation process.)
2. Select a research-based reading strategy that corresponds
to the area of interest in reading
(For example, implement the use of graphic organizers during
your delivery of instruction.)
Administer three lessons in sequence using the same research
based strategy (ex: graphic organizer).
Administer the three lessons separately over three days.

3. Administer a post-test according to the area of
interest in reading.
(For example, if testing for reading comprehension,
use an Informal Reading Inventory for the evaluation
process)
Use the same assessment tool used for the pre-test to
conduct the post-test.

4. Compare the scores of the pre-test to the post-
test.
Analyze the data, create a diagram showing a visual
representation of the data, and provide a written
report summarizing the data.
