HEATING AND COOLING

BY: MANN GANDHI

HEATING:
 Is the amount of energy flowing from one
body to another spontaneously due to their
temperature difference. Measured in Joules (J)

TEMPERATURE:
 Is the degree of hotness or coldness that can
be measured using a thermometer. Measured
in degrees Fahrenheit (F) and Celcius (C).
CONDUCTION:
1.CONDUCTION:
-Is the transfer of heat from one point to
another through materials.
2.CONDUCTERS:
-Is the material that allows heat to pass
through it. For ex. Metals
3.INSULATORS:
-Is that material that doesn’t allow heat to pass
through it. For ex. Wood and Plastic
CONVECTION AND RADIATION:
 Convection is the transfer of heat from one
point to another through liquid. For ex. Water
• But it should be noted that Pure water is a
poor conductor of heat. (H2O)
• Radiation is the transfer of heat from one
place to another through air.
EXPLANATION:
 Normally, the flames always go upwards
because hot air is less dense than colder air.
On a sunny day, hot air currents can rise from
the ground. The sun can cause very large
convection currents which we feel as winds.
This energy from the Sun is called Solar
energy (Radiant energy).
 One of the rays are infra-red rays or ultra-

violet rays.
 Human bodies radiate energy.
