THE IPAD

VOICEOVER
• The voiceover setting on the iPad than can
read out loud what is on the screen including
icons, weblinks, and buttons. Voiceover is for
the visually impaired.
• The user can enable voiceover by going to:
Settings, General, Accessibility, Vision
Category.
• How to navigate Voiceover:
• Single-tap anywhere on the screen
and your iPad will speak aloud the
item that you're tapping on.
• Double-tap on an item to select it.
• To scroll through a page, use three
fingers
• Double-tap with three fingers to
switch speech commands on and off
from the Lock Screen.
SPEAK SELECTION
• Speak selection can read text back to you but unlike
voiceover it can only be activated when the person
highlights the passage. It is ideal anyone who has
difficulty reading small text and someone who is
learning another language.
• The user can enable speak selection by going to:
Settings, General, Accessibility, Speech, Swipe both
speak selection and Speak.
• How to navigate speak selection:
• To hear the entire screen the user can swipe
down with two fingers from the top of the
screen.
• To hear text the user can tap the Speak
button.
• The speak selection can be adjusted to:
• The iPad speaking entire words, auto-
corrections, auto-capitalizations, and typing
predictions.
• Voice and Dialect.
• Speaking rate
• Pronunciations
ASSISTIVE TOUCH
• Assistive Touch allows the use that has motor skills
impairment to zoom in on the screen or use 3D
touch.
• The user can enable Assistive Touch by going to:
Settings, Accessibility, Touch or say “Hey Siri turn
on Assistive Touch. After enabling the assistive touch
a box will appear on the screen for device shorts
cuts.
• How to navigate Assistive Touch
• Device shorts cuts allow the user to lock the
iPad, rotate the screen and alter the volume. Tap
the more buttons icon to see shaking the iPad
shortcuts for taking a screenshot and accessing
the multitasking bar.
• The user can also create a gesture or use an
existing gesture to drag the screen around or
zoom into photos, websites and maps.
DISPLAY ACCOMMODATIONS
• Display accommodations are for people who are
colorblind or who have trouble reading the screen.
• How to enable: General, Accessibility, Display
accommodations
• The user can:
• Bold Text: Makes the text in your device's user
interface bold.
• Larger Text: Tap this, then turn on Larger
Accessibility Sizes. Then you can use the slider to
adjust your preferred reading size.
• Turn labels on and off
• Reduce Transparency/ White Point: Improves
contrast by reducing transparency and blurs on
some backgrounds/ reduces the intensity of bright
colors.
• Increase Contrast: Improves color contrast
between app foreground and background colors.
• Differentiate Without Color: Replaces user
interface items that rely solely on color to convey
information.
