★ Coming into my mentorship I wanted to mainly get an idea about how physical therapy works and if it was something I would potentially be interested in pursuing. ★ Not only did I realize that they have better hours but it is not as boring as I always thought it would be. ACTIVITIES
★ I completed my first day!
★ I learned to clean the beds! ★ I learned to do their laundry. ★ I met tons of new people. ★ I learned more about acupuncture. ★ I observed some fun therapy treatments. ★ I helped complete some first introduction tests. ★ I was able to watch people graduate from therapy. ★ I was able to observe some of their weekly meetings and how those work. ★ I also learned a few of the patients workouts and was able to help them all on my own. LESSONS LEARNED ★ I think one of the most important lessons I learned is the need for confidence. It takes a lot to meet people you have never met. Which was an ongoing theme in BenchMark there were new patients everyday. It was important to be outgoing and be able to shake a and and introduce yourself. ★ I think the second most important lesson I learned was that not everyone is going to be nice. There was instance where a deaf women had come in and she was very displeased with everything. I tried to help her but she just got more upset. I felt terrible and like I had messed up. My mentors assured me that I was not in MOVING FORWARD
★ After everything I have learned and the experience I
have gained I hope to be able to find use for it all in my future. Not only did I learn from the therapists but from working with people in general. I think a lot of my personal skills I have learned through my time as a mentor are valuable to anything I decide to do in the future. Through all of the good and the bad every lesson I learned, I plan to carry that new gained knowledge with me wherever I go!
