Introduction
• Waste management is one of the most common and
challenging problem in the world.
• Great amount of waste material is generated by
industries and has cause tremendous harm to both the
environment and ecology.
• Reuse of waste material has become very important.
• Steel slag : residue obtained in the steel making
operation.
• Waste fishing net i.e. waste nylon nets : as it is a form of
plastic, it is non-biodegradable.
• So in order to reuse these waste material in
construction industry, we have been planning to do the
project ‘ concrete using steel slag and waste nylon.
Lit Survey
1. Properties of using concrete manufactured using steel slag.
 Aim of study : to study experimentally the effect of partial replacement of coarse and fine aggregate by
steel slag on the strength & durability properties.
 Experimental details :
• Test samples produced with FA & CA, progressively replaced by SS at 10% interval by weight up to 50%.
• Cured for 28 days.
• Determined the compressive, tension, flexure, deflection and durability.
 Results and conclusion :
• The optimum % of replacement for FA is 40% and for CA is 30%. Beyond comp. strength decreases.
• Workability decreases as the % of replacement increases.
• Deflection in RCC beams gradually increases on both replacements.
Lit Survey
2. Steel Slag as a Substitute for Fine Aggregate in High Strength
Concrete.
• The experimental investigation has been carried out on the test specimens (Cubes, Cylinders, Beams)
to study the strength properties as a result of replacing fine aggregate by Steel slag in various
percentages namely 5%, 10%,15%, 20%, 25%, 30% and 35%.
• Result and conclusion:
• The maximum compressive strength value occurs at 25% slag ratio and declines beyond the 25%
replacement ratio.
• In almost all replacement ratios the flexural strength increased by the increase in slag ratio.
• Compressive strength, flexural strength and splitting tensile strength for steel slag aggregates concrete
were similar to conventional concrete.
Lit Survey
3. Steel Slag to Improve the High Strength of Concrete
 Aim: To observe the optimum % of steel slag (powder) as partial replacement of cement 0 to 40%.
 Methodology:
• SS crushed to 20mm.
• River sand as FA and crushed granite as CA.
• Concrete mix ratio =1: 0.97: 2.02 (Cement: FA: CA: Water-cement ratio)
• Test were taken on 7, 14, 28thday.
 Result and conclusion :
• Max. Compressive , tensile , flexure strength observed on 36% of replacement.
• It has been observed that up to 36% replacement of fine aggregate with steel slag to be good in
Compression, as well as in Tension, whereas the concrete properties with equal proportion of steel slag
and conventional fine aggregate confirmed to be inefficient.
Lit Survey
 A Study on Waste Nylon Fiber in Concrete
• Aim : fish nets (made up of plastics) are adding 1%, 2%, 3%, 4% and 5% in concrete and compared the fibre
concrete with the conventional concrete with the mechanical properties.
• Superplasticier is used by 29% .
• Result and conclusion :
• It will increase the ductile behavior of concrete. So that tensile strength will increase.
• The compressive strength, split tensile strength, flexural strength of concrete will increase by percentage of
nylon fibre i.e. (1%, 2%, 3%.etc.)
Problem statement
• Disposal of Waste generated in steel industry and waste fishing nets is one of the major problem in front of
environment protection agencies & government. In order to overcome this issue, reuse of these waste in
construction application such as concrete, by using SS as CA and FA and adding waste nylon in concrete.

Objectives to be achieved
• Planning for testing equipments and machinery.
• Procurement of materials.
• Draw better results of various % of combinations.
• Write report with sustainable solution.
Methodology

1.Casting cubes, beams .

2. Test the cubes, beam after 7th , 14th and 28th day
3.Observe the behavior and results.
4.Draw the conclusion from results.
5. Suggest sustainable solution.
