What is the Socializing?

• Socialization is the process by which children and


adults learn from others.
• Many people think that socialization is especially
important for infants and children.
• Psychologists now realize that socialization
continues all across the life span, as long as people
continue to learn from social experiences.
How socialization is

1. Socialization converts man, the biological being


into man, the social being.
• Man is not born social.
• Various instances like-that of kasper hauser, Anna,
the wolf children of India and others have made it
clear that only through consant training the
newborn child becomes social in nature.

• Personality is a product of society.
• Socialization is a process through which the
personality of the new born child is shaped and
molded.
• Through the process, the child learns anapproved
way of social life.
• It provides enough scope for the individual to
develop his individuality.

• Socialization is social learning.
• It is the values, ideals, aims and objectives of life
and the means of attaining them.
4. Helps to enact different roles
• Every individual hasto enact different roles in his
life.
• Every role is woven around norms and is associated
with different attitudes.

• Socialization skills help the individualto play
economic, professional, educational,religiousand
political roles in his latter life.
• In primitive societies for example imparting skills to
the younger generation in specific occupations was
an important aspect of socialization.
Types of Socialization

1.Primary socialization.
• This type of socialization happens when a child learns the
values, norms and behaviors that should be displayed in
order to live accordingly to a specific culture.
2.Secondary socialization
• This type of socialization occurs when a person learns an
appropriate behavior to be displayed within a smaller group
which is still part of a larger society. The changes within the
values, attitudes and beliefs of an individual are seen to be
less important than the changes made in him as he
participates in the larger society.

3. Developmental socialization
• This type of socialization involves a learning process wherein
the focus in on developing our social skills.
4. Anticipatory socialization
• This type of socialization refers to the process wherein a
person practices or rehearses for future social relationships.
5. Resocialization
• This type of socialization involves rejecting previous
behavior patterns and accepting new ones so the individual
can shift from one part of his life to another. Resocialization
is said to be happening throughout human life cycle.
