OBJECTIVE OF IMPLEMENTING
SMART CARD IN PUBLIC TRANSPORT

 The objective of the project is to set this

smartcard as a national standard for
other cities and regions of the country
for all modes of transport.
TYPES OF SMART CARD

 Classification of the Smart Card:-Two types of smart cards are available.

 Contact Vs contactless: The smart card has the integrated microprocessors and requires
energy to work, along with it the smart cards have some techniques to exchange the
information, receiving the information and transmitting the information. Few smart cards consist
of the golden plates and contact pads at the corner of the card, this category of the smart cards
are known as the contact smart cards. The plates present at the corner of the card supply the
required amount of energy and for exchanging the information through direct electrical contact
with the help of a reader. The contact pad will not be present on few smart cards and in such
cards, the connection between a reader and the card will be created through radio frequency.

 The contactless cards do not need a reader and they have the serial interface and an antenna
will be present which is used to connect the card.

 Memory Vs microprocessor: The usual and the affordable smart cards are the memory
cards and they have the non-volatile memory and the electrically erasable programmable read
only memory i.e. EEPROM. As it is a non-volatile memory, if we displace the card from the reader
or have issues with the power like power cut then the card saves the information.

 The microprocessor cards are similar to the computers and they contain the RAM, ROM, and
EPROM with the 8-bit microprocessor or the 16-bit microprocessor.

REASONS BEHIND CHOOSING SMART CARD
FOR TRANSPORT SYSTEM
 Contactless smart transport cards, together with the fare
payment network behind them, deliver veryhigh levels
of security for you.
 Already in US,Europe ,they are using the smart card and
we want to use this smart card technology in india which
will be one of the finiest reason behind makin “DIGITAL
INDIA”.
  Your transport card is, in most cases, anonymous, so no
one can glean any information about you from the card
  because contactless smart transport cards
contain many layers of security, it would be nearly
impossible for someone to counterfeit and use it
HOW THE SMART CARD WILL WORK
 Contactless smart transport cards are very
simple to use.  The card’s smart card chip is
a tiny computer that works with the fare
payment system to keep track of your
remaining ticketing value.  The “contactless”
functionality of your card allows it to make a
wireless connection with a reader.  You
simply hold your card up to a reader, your
fare is paid, and you can go on your way.  It
is faster, easier and more convenient.

 Whenever a passenger enter in the bus

or any transport system,he /she will
punch the card in the vending machine.
 Firstly the machine will show a
‘WELCOME’ message and it will show
the place name where the passenger
get into bus and then passenger have
to select his/her destination place in
the machine.

 Then the machine will calculate the
distance and will it deduct the fare from
the smart card.
 And it will display again a ”THANK YOU
“ message to the passenger
