does it mean to us?
 Diversity is a commitment to recognizing and
appreciating the variety of characteristics that make
individuals unique in an atmosphere that promotes and
celebrates individual and collective achievement.
 Examples of these characteristics are: age; cognitive style;
culture; disability (mental, learning, physical); economic
background; education; ethnicity; gender identity;
geographic background; language(s) spoken;
marital/partnered status; physical appearance; political
affiliation; race; religious beliefs; sexual orientation.
2)URBAN TRIBES

a distinct common identity: the same aesthetic codes, the same
identity symbols, the same rules, the same language, the same
music… A whole ideology!

the 70s and the 80s. They share
the same style, musical and cultural
dark tastes. Their aesthetic focuses
on the colour black: Both their
clothes and their makeup are black.
Their favourite music styles are the
Gothic rock and death rock among
others. They love death and
everything associated with
obscurantism, but they are not a
violent group. On the contrary, this
tribe pleads for the tolerance and
the diversity.
Dress style of the gotics
 Goth or gothic is a subculture usually identified
by the fact that its members (Goths/gothics)
wear mostly black, and often dress
"differently", for example, in long, ornate
dresses, or skintight PVC or accessorizing with
punk jewelers such as spiked collars. Other
popular items of clothing among Goths include
fishnet (stockings, gloves, tops, etc), long
black coats, lace, silver jewelers, black band t-
shirts, and large buckle or lace-up boots.
4)Punks
 they are known as anti globalization groups. The Punk was
born in the late 70s in the UK. The punks are an
anarchistic group: they are against capitalism,
neoliberalism and consumerism. As with other tribes, they
share some specific music and fashion styles. They wear
used clothes, mostly black (combined with other explosive
colours). It is usually broken, patched and adorned with
logos of punk bands and anti-repression slogans.
Normally they have shaved hair with a mohawk or
coloured crest which denotes social status. Their favourite
musical bands are The Ramones, The Clash o the Sex
Pistols. Experts consider them genuine urban guerrillas
because of their continued fights against the police.
5)Emos
 this tribe has recently emerged
with a great force, especially
among the teenagers. Usually
dressed in black, with painted
lips and eyes, they look very
androgynous. They are usually
depressed and hate life in
general, which to them is
worthless and meaningless.
The “emo” term comes from
‘emotional’. It originated in the
80s hardcore and punk music.
Their present songs have
added sentimental, sad and
suicidal messages. They are
not dangerous to other people,
but maybe they are to
themselves because of their
suicide tendency.

6)Skaters
 The skateboard was born in 1970 in California. And at first it was an
offshoot of surfing (water table). In the 70's, thanks to television, film
and magazines, the sport spread across the world

 The Skater is related to street culture, and under the name of this
sport is a broad culture. The skating has developed a great attraction
and interest to many. A report in 2002 for the American Sports Data
estimates the number of skaters is 13.5 million worldwide. Of these,
80% are below age 18, of which 74% are men. The skate is also seen as
a form of personal expression, as each skater has their own style.

Because of their movements and the speed with which they occur
running tensions that build and limit their space, because it's skaters
become sealed to the rest, and are observed from a distance without
interacting with the rest of the population

 The urban tribes have always been there,
along with and social trends and movements.
Some have gained a reputation while others
have lost it, but they have never stopped
existing. They are a reflection of what they
love or what they hate and of their own
instincts.
Idiosyncrasies and habits
 The metal is one of the most complex urban identities, largely due to its strong internal divisions. The fact
that an individual is defined as a metalhead is not enough to define it in terms of preference, style or
ideology, given the presence of different sub-genres and styles within the movement itself. While there are
metalheads who listen to any subgenre and not identified with any in particular, there are those who take
one in particular very seriously, even at sectarian. Such is the case of black metal, whose more extreme
followers identify music with some variants of Satanism, paganism or the occult. [4] In the thrash metal, on
the other hand, it is common rebellious punk influence, reflected in both their sound in their lyrics, many
of them openly anarchist. However, there are metalheads who deny that they should obey certain political
ideology or advocate any particular religious doctrine, assuming that the metal culture has more to do with
music than with speech. Still, the purely musical question also raises important disagreements. Many
define this or that sound like real metal, accusing others of being false metal subgenres or deliberate
product of the culture industry. In the eighties it was common, for example, that the accused thrashers
glam posers and their music and image of being a commercial product for the masses. In the death metal
and black metal is common that many defend a primitive and raw sound compared to the more melodic
and more extreme metal refining business. Progressive metal fans, meanwhile, give great importance to
instrumental technique, and many of them despise the primitiveness and minimalism of genres like black
metal. Perhaps like no other musical genre, the metalheads are typically very demanding and critical of the
bands artwork. A very common cliché in the metal is that Metallica was a great thrash band until it was sold
to the industry from their Black Album. The same criticism has been renowned bands like Anthrax, Carcass,
or Sepultura. In the mid-nineties began to spread the nickname of the old school metalhead to designate
those who were faithful to the roots of metal and subgenera were against more commercial and
prefabricated.
Authenticity and pose critical
 The metalheads are usually very strict about the authenticity of their culture, while there
is general agreement on what criteria are what characterize the true metalhead. The
most common problems in differentiating the true metalhead of Posero are the kind of
subgenre that is heard, ideology, social behavior, attire and membership group. In
strictly musical terms, the metalheads have made a distinction between what they
consider true and false metal metal. The proliferation of more commercial metal bands
and the crisis that hit the genre in the nineties after the success of grunge, and left
many bands change their sound to adapt to new trends, prompted an intense internal
debate about what should be considered true metal and what not. The hardest
metalheads hoisted the sound of the old school, neglecting subgenera considered
commercial mixtures such as rap, alternative rock and electronic music. Mergers issue
as deathcore, nu metal or industrial metal were harshly criticized, arguing that it betrays
the true spirit of metal. The proponents of these new trends previously claimed that the
metal was fused with punk and progressive rock and there was no reason to censor
these emerging mixes with other genres. Were criticized, however, that the new blends
contributed little or nothing about creative originality, innovation and technology. Bands
like Slipknot, Rammstein, Rage Against The Machine, Marilyn Manson is considered false
metal metalheads harder, while the more eclectic feel that there is no reason to label
them that way.
Relationship with other
subcultures
 It is common to find groups of metalheads against musical genres
considered empty and metalheads comerciales.La relationship with the
different urban tribes is complex and depends largely on the metal in
particular and their own opinions and preferences. In general, hard
rockers and metalheads have always had good relationship. In contrast, in
the eighties there were some conflicts between punk and metal, although
the reasons are not entirely clear, even less so considering that punk was
instrumental in developing new wave of British metal, while the hardcore
was a great influence to the birth of thrash and death metal.

Many metalheads are attracted by the culture of tattooing and body

modification, while others expressed interest in culture chopper. In fact
the dress of American riders in the seventies was a decisive influence on
the current metalera clothing.
