Task A2: Jaws Case study of

pre production documentation

HENRY MCCULLOUGH
Intrdocution

 Introdcution:The blockbuster film I have chosen to use is jaws, jaws

was a massive film and attracted a lot of attention. The film is
about a hot summer on an island called Amity Island where there
is a small community whose main is the beaches on this island.
Where there is a new sheriff called martin brody who discovers
the remains of a shark attack victim, the first place he sees it is
close to the beaches to swimmers. The news spread and it
doesn’t sit well with the mayor Larry Vaughan and most of the
local businessman. The dead boy’s mother puts out a bounty on
the shark that killed her son. A local fisherman with much
experience hunting sharks, Quint, offers to hunt down the
creature for a hefty fee.
Storyboards
 This is part of the storyboard from jaws and would have been
used to finalise the plans of the film. As you can see the pictures
are detailed very well to almost tell the cast how to perform, it
shows the shot types that will be used and this is key because
then everyone know what is going on. We can see how detailed it
is because it shows the water hitting the sharks almost as if it
was real life. There is a description of each storyboard under
each picture to ad to the detail of the storyboard. I believe one
thing that could be added is the number of the shot so everyone
involved knows the order of each shot in the storyboard.
Script
CHRISSIE
C'mon!
She runs headlong into the inviting sea, plunges cleanly
into the water with a light "Whoops!" as the cold water sweeps
over her.
Behind all this, we continue to hear the sentimental, beery
chorus of alma maters.
Then we see it -- a gentle bulge in the water, a ripple that
We have an example of part of the
passes her a dozen feet away. A pressure wave lifts her up, script on the left of the screen from
then eases her down again, like a smooth, sudden swell.
CHRISSIE jaws. This is very detailed and this
Tommy? Don't dunk me... shows why jaws wash so well acted out
She looks around for him, finds him still on the beach, his
feet tangled in his pants, which have dropped around his because the cast will be able to follow
ankles. She starts to swim back in to him.
EXT. CHRISSIE IN THE WATER
this script and everything will fall into
Her expression freezes. The water-bulge is racing towards place and this is why the film was as
her. The first bump jolts her upright, out of the water to
her hips. She reaches under water to touch her leg. Whatever good as it is because the pre production
she feels makes her open her mouth to scream, but she is
slammed again, hard, whipped into an arc of about eight feet,
was spot on. It is so detailed that it is
up and down, submerging her down to her open mouth, choking showing even how the character need
off any scream she might try to make. Another jolt to her
body, driving her under so that only her hair swirls on the to be talking and the expressions that
surface. Then it too is sucked below in a final and terrible
jerking motion. HOLD on the eddies and swirls until we're
the character need to have. Every little
sure it's all over. detail is put in to perspective when this
script was made for jaws to ensure that
the pre production was spot on and the
film ran smoothly.
Risk asessments and meetings

 Risk assessment: I couldn't find the risk assessment for jaws so I

believe that these are the  things that should be included in the
risk assessment. There are 4 main things that should be in a risk
assessment. In a risk assessment you need to identify the hazards
and those affected by them, evaluate the risk of those hazards,
identify the issue and resolve the issue quickly. A risk assessment
needs to be updated and resolved and updated quickly.
 Meetings- During the pre-production stage there will be multiple
meetings in the run up to making the film. This will be done to
ensure that everything runs smoothly, and the film is made
perfectly because the pre-production is done well . The pre
production will run smoothly because there will be meetings to
ensure that it runs smoothly.
Locations where filmed
The locations that were used are mainly in the
USA and there was a couple of locations in Australia.
These are very exotic locations and will make the film
look very nice. Also there are many places that’s you
can film in the USA and Australia and this is maybe
why the film has been filmed there because you can
film in so many locations in these countries meaning
it saves time and is more convenient for the making
of the film. There is a location at beach and jaws
needed to be filmed at a beach meaning that they
filmed here  because Americas are known for the
nicest beaches. Meaning the locations would have
been used because of this and that how nice they
look. Which will make the film look good to the
audience and more enjoyable for the audience.
