Our Idea
• Our idea is a action based film which involves two main characters Eric & Henry which involves a robbery
between the two characters. The idea is more of a moral story where we present a countertype reacting to
the stereotype of ethnic minorities being either criminals or associated with illegal activity. The main way we
plan to present this is through the description of the two main characters. We conducted research into
events that match the common stereotype and found out that the common age and ethnicity of people who
were segmented in this stereotype were black teenagers aged from around 17-20 on average. We also
noticed that the common stereotyped victims were normally middle aged people. As a group we decided to
flip this statistic and make one of our characters Eric a middle aged black man who is employed and is living
a normal life whilst our other character; Henry is a white teenage boy aged around 17-20 who has lived a
troubled life and has been involved in gang activity. It begins where the two characters at school where they
aren’t close friends. One of the teenagers is picking on the other student for a while until one day he
stumbles across what looks to be like a plan against him. He begins to go easy on the other teenager in fear
and attempts to befriend him to find out more information. One day he is invited to go to his new friends
house when he discovers a hidden shrine dedicated to targeting him in ways unexplained. He begins to lie
low from this character in fear and one day on his way home from a stressful day of work he is robbed in
broad daylight and he suspects he knows the criminal.
Inspirations
• One of our key inspirations we took into consideration was the Black Lives Matter movement that was swept
across America and all over social media raising awareness of racial unfairness in America which however
subsequently helped to reveal similar issues across the world.
• Another key inspiration is the high raising rate of knife crime across London these past couple of years. From
our own research we have found out that Southwark and Lambeth hold the highest rate of gun crime and
knife crime in London. Between April 2018 and March 2019 police recorded 43,516 offences involving a knife
or sharp instrument. 62% of the people arrested for such reasons have been between the ages of 15-21.
How is it different?
• One of the main ways that our idea differs from many others that are on the market is the idea of our action
genre based film having a moral based on real life events and stereotypes. The reason this idea stands out
compared to others in this particular market is because action genre films don’t usually include a moral as
one of their conventions.
• Another way our idea is presented differently is the fact that our idea doesn’t consist of a particular hero
and doesn’t necessarily end positively as the normal stereotyped action tale. Our idea consists of the main
conventions of the action genre in order for the film to fall under this category but it however contains
elements and conventions of other genres.
Unions/Practices
• One of the unions that may have an impact on our idea is the Ofcom
organization that is in charge of regulation throughout many forms of
media. In order to have our idea publicized it will have to be reviewed
and looked over by the Ofcom group before it airs. As a result of this
our film may therefore be subject to watershed meaning that
between 5:30am and 9pm it will not be allowed to be publicized until
watershed hours.
• The idea may also be affected by the Advertising Standards Authority
where they filter content shown in ads across different media
platforms. This means that we will have to carefully filter the content
of our ads to ensure that we meet their standards.

Lighting? Why/Effect?
• Our film will use high key lighting to create the suspense and also
lowkey lighting which would be used to set the tone. It fits in with our
tory of reverse stereotypes and how it’s wrong to judge people by the
colour of their skin. It’s a mix of both lighting techniques, it will be
throughout the film, it will add to the atmosphere due to the fact that
it will set the tone to emphasise how much the media stereotype on
people due to the colour of them
