Course Objective
• The course objective is to provide an
opportunity for students to apply their
engineering knowledge to solve open-
ended problems using a
multidisciplinary team approach.
Course Overview
• Independent Laboratory Sessions
• Creative design camp
• Written Weekly Team Meetings (Monday Class)
• Completion of prototype development
• Final Report (Written and Presentation)
Design Cycle
System Design (KL3233)

Synopsis
• The course requires the student to identify and explain
technical problems and also to design product as daily life
solution in group. Various possible solutions should be
proposed using learned technical knowledge. Student
needs to modify design process in order to meet certain
specification by considering constraints to produce
engineering and product prototype. Student should plan
and manage a project based on the system engineering
approach.

NoteBook/LogBook
• Keep a Contemporaneous Engineering Notebook.
• That means, Write EVERYTHING Down, even include a
doctor appointment; that's what helps make it a believable
Legal Document.
– Draw line  date  initials
• So keep the notebook up to date and have it Witnessed
often by those whom you trust, and understand your work.
(your class secretary or class instructors)
• This can mean the difference between Owning the Patent
Rights to your Work, or NOT!  Also, it can jog the old
memory
• Of course, It Don't Hurt  when Final Reports are Due!
NoteBook/LogBook
• Standard size of B5. Use a Bound (stitched binding)
notebook. DO NOT use a loose leaf or Spiral bound
notebook! Your group MUST use a uniform logbook.
• Divided into 3 parts
– Meeting attendance
– Group Meeting information (your own minute)
– Scrap note section
• Will be evaluated as your individual works
 Don’t let your friend copy!!!!!
What is in the scrap-note
(1) Entries Should be in Permanent Ink--Not Pencil.
(2) The Project Title, Subsection and Book Number should be accurately
recorded when starting a New Page.
(3) All data is to be recorded directly into the notebook. The inclusion of
all elaborate details is preferable. Notes and calculations should be
done in the notebook, NOT on loose paper. In the case of an error,
draw a single line through the incorrect data. Do Not Erase or use
correction fluid. All corrections should be initialed and dated.
(4) After entering your data, sign and date all entries. Witness or
witnesses should sign and date each entry. The witness must observe
the work that is done, and have sufficient knowledge to understand
what they read. Names of all who were present during any
demonstration should also be recorded.
(5) Use Both sides of a Page.
Never leave any White Space: "X" out or Crosshatch all unused space,
and don't forget to initial & date same.
(6) All contents of the notebook should be kept strictly Confidential. It
should be kept in a Protected place to safeguard against Loss.
