• A speech sound that you make with your lips and teeth open, shown
in English by the letters a, e, i, o, u.
• Letters of the English alphabet that represent vowels: a, e, i, o, u, and
sometimes y.

CONSONANTS

• One of the speech sounds or letters of the alphabet that is not a


vowel. Consonants are pronounced by stopping the air from flowing
easily through the mouth, especially by closing the lips or touching
the teeth with the tongue.
• The consonants in English are: b,c,d,f,g,h,j,k,l,m,n,p,q,r,s,t,v,w,x,y,z.
