TRANSLATION
STRATEGY

Definition of Translation Strategy by experts :

1. Krings (1986:18), defines translation strategy as “translator’s potentially


conscious plans for solving concrete translation problems in the franeworks of a
concrete translation task.”
2. Moreover, Loescher (1991:8) defines translation strategy as “a potentially
consciious procedure for solving a problem.”
3. Venuti (1998:240) indicates that translation strategies have specific features, for
example, they are goal-oriented and problem-centered, moreover, they require
making coordinate decisions while they are potentially conscious.

This technique is known as cultural adaptation


technique. This technique is done by replacing the
cultural elements that are BSu with similar cultural
ADAPTATION elements that are in the BSa. This can be done
because the cultural elements in the BSu are not found
in the BSa, or the cultural elements in the BSa are
more familiar to the target audience.

Translation techniques are done by borrowing words


BORROWING or expressions from BSu. The loan can be pure (pure
borrowing) without adjustment or lending that has
been naturalized (naturalized borrowing) with
adjustments to spelling or pronunciation. The official
dictionary on the BSa is a measure of whether the
word or phrase is a loan or not.
