 WHO WERE THE TUDORS?

• Were a Welsh-English family that ruled England and Wales from 1485 to 1603(118 years).
• The first monarch was King Henry VII (1457–1509).
• Tudor England saw two of the strongest monarchs ever to sit on the English throne:King Henry VIII
and his daughter Queen Elizabeth I.
 KING HENRY VII: 1485–1509

• The founder of the House of Tudor.

• Became King of England by defeating King Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth Field, the
culmination of the Wars of the Roses.
• He engaged in a number of administrative, economic and diplomatic initiatives.
• His new taxes were unpopular.
 KING HENRY VIII: 1509–1547

• He was the second Tudor monarch, succeeding his father Henry VII.
• Henry is known for his radical changes to the English Constitution.
• Also, Henry is best known for his six marriages.
• Henry's contemporaries considered him an attractive, educated, and accomplished king.

 THE BATTLE OF BOSWORTH FIELD

• The last significant battle of the civil war between the Houses of Lancaster and York .
• Extended across England in the latter half of the 15th century.
• Lancastrians leader, became the first English monarch of the Tudor dynasty by his victory and
subsequent marriage to a Yorkist princess.
 BATTLE OF STOKE FIELD

• Took place on 16 June 1487.

• The last battle of the Wars of the Roses.
• The two sides met at East Stoke, Nottinghamshire, on 16th June 1487.
• The Royalists were able to chase down many of the rebel army and killed around 4000 of them
either in battle or as they fled.

• Tudors society was steeped in the medieval tradition in England.

• People were grouped in a hierarchical system with the King at the top.
• If you were born poor there was little chance of you becoming rich.
• People were taught by the church that their position in life was determined by God.
