What is the Hand Sanitizer?
 Alcohol containing preparations designed for application to
the hands for reducing the number of microorganisms.
 They are used to avoid transmissions of pathogens.

 Types
 Various preparations are available, including gel, foam and
liquid solutions.
 Active Ingredients.
 Iso-Propanol , ethanol, n- propanol.

 History of Hand Sanitizer.


 The first hand sanitizer was created by “Goldie” and “Jerry
Lippman” in 1946.
 1988 Gojo introduced Purell instant hand sanitizer.
Property of Hand Sanitizer
 It is 65% alcohol based.
 It takes less time than traditional hand

washing with soap and water.


 Acts fast to kill microorganisms.
 Easy and quick to use.
 Reduce the spread of illness.
 Portable and convenient.
 Reduce amount of bacterial found on the

hands.
Benefits:
 Hand sanitizers are convenient, portable, easy to use

and not time consuming.


 Several studies have concluded that the risk of

spreading gastrointestinal (stomach) and respiratory


infection is decreased among families who use hand
sanitizers.
Limitations:
 Not all hand sanitizers are created equally. Check the

bottle for active ingredients.


 Alcohol does not cut through grime. 
All dirt, blood and soil must be wiped or washed away
first if the alcohol in the sanitizer is to be effective. In
such cases, hand-washing with soap and water is
advised.
