INTRODUCTION
There are numerous contemporary issues being faced by the
hospitality industry in this current dynamic and complex
business world. Some issues related to managerial, legislations
and operations are more likely to impact the operations of the
hotels and thus, they need to be addressed effectively.
Furthermore, in the accommodation sector numerous alterations
and developments have been seen in past 20 years. People today
are ready to spend huge in their holidays and leisure travels
(O’Connor, 2005). Consequently, it is quite important to assess
the present image of the hospitality industry and this subsequent
presentation will throw light on recent developments, factor and
issues and trends influencing this sector.
TASK – 3
3.1 Examining the operational, managerial and legislative issues
upsetting the hospitality industry
This industry is ever changing and versatile and therefore, it is
quite obvious that various issues and factors will impacts its
smooth functioning and operations. Food and safety, standard
operating procedures, expectations of employees, social-cultural,
e-commerce and recruitment and selection are some of the
operating issues being faced by hospitality companies. On the
other side, there are many managerial issues as well such as
identifying the main players in the market, offering training and
development to workers, marketing considerations, and other
media issues

Lastly, legislative issues are concerned with the legal
regulations and policies in the hospitality sector which is
required to be followed for hassle proof functioning (Lussier,
2014). The main important part of this sector is the quality of
services and therefore, all rules and regulations pertaining to
this area being specified by the government of UK should be
followed significantly to avoid heavy penalties. Out of these,
the main issues that the companies’ faces related to hospitality
industry are expectation of the workers. Employees have many
hopes from the firm like timely appraisals, flexible work
practices, proper recognition, growth prospects etc. These needs
to be meet out for effective work and output.
3.2 Current image of the hospitality industry

Hospitality business was quite limited earlier in respect of its


types and time of business. But now, the scenario is quite
reversed (Mei, Dean and White, 1999). It is now becoming really
tough to differentiate the big issues that change the whole
hospitality industry. This pertains to the fact that they are now
capable enough to offer food and beverage and hotel
accommodation for long period of time. In addition to this, the
way people take hospitality industry has also changed with the
passage of time. People now prefer eat and much outside, as they
are running short of time to cook at home.

Generally, people tend to eat outside and make use of take
away services being provided by every restaurant in the
present phase (Rutherford and O’Fallon, 2007). This is the
main reasons behind the development of increasing number
of establishments in each and every part of the world. In
addition to this, because of the coverage and publicity of
media, the food and beverage institutes are rising in
number. From advertisements people gets aware in regards
with the new products as well as services being offered by
these sectors.

4.1 Justifying predictions for potential trends and
developments in hospitality

 Online booking of services – In recent years, there has been


increase in online travel booking and researching. Around 100
million people have searched about online travel in the year
2013. This will surely influence the hospitality industry
(Brymer, 2005).
 Uneven distribution of demand – Due to economic distress,
hospitality and its related sectors has to face a great downfall.
However, this sector is also heading towards the recovery stage
and there has been increase in bars, pubs and clubs.

 Mobile based bookings – Today, smart phones are getting


treatment as of mini-computing device which help in enabling
the companies to leverage on this particular factor. Many
organizations have been impacted by this such as Starwood,
Hilton, IHG in curbing their operational costs (Roy, 2013).
 Impact of social media – for hospitality sector, quality of service
plays an important role. If the clients are being contended with
the services being offered to them by the hotel than it is nothing
but an act of advertisement which will boost the promotion of
hotel in public. However, if there is any negative feedback than
this wills surely influence the image and brand of the hotel in
market. Thus, social-media and customer’s review plays a vital
role in strategy development of hotel.

 Change in the level of lifestyle – For meeting out different
taste and groups of people, hospitality related organizations
are undergoing various alternations in their product range due
to emergence of new lifestyles. For example, currently in
London hotel owners are focusing on developing boutique
hotels so as to offer unique experience to their customers
(Prideaux, Moscardo and Laws, 2006). Visitors coming across
from different nations have variety of taste and choices and
therefore, the operations and functions of the hospitality
industry is impacted a lot.
4.2 Producing an impact analysis for the
predicted trends and developments
Numerous trends have been determined and analyzed in the
above paragraph that is affecting the overall hospitality industry.
The lifestyle of the people has changed lot overtime and now
they are more focused on boutique and unique hotels.
Concerning this, number of hotels and resorts in United
Kingdom are emphasizing more on renovating their old
properties and changing their structure considering the new taste
and preferences of the people. In addition to this, hotels are also
now showing more concern towards the environment and
realizing their social responsibility (Lockwood and Medlik,
2002). Pertaining to this, hotels, pubs and clubs are paying
attention on the sustainability part and are also in a need to
contribute in the development of natural environment.

For illustration, at the time of development of sites near hilly


areas or at hills, it should be taken care by the hotels to
protect the natural surroundings and must make sure that all
operations and activities are carried out sustainably. Thus, it
can be attributed that in today’s business environment, there
are many changes taking place along with issues and trends
which are impacting the functioning of the firms (Pizam,
2007). For ensuring continuous growth and success, it is
essential that all the future trends are visualized at the
earliest possible so that firms can avail the opportunity
related to first mover advantage.
CONCLUSION & RECOMMENDATIONS
Thus, it can be concluded that the hospitality sector is very
changing and dynamic in nature and time to time new issue and
trends will come forth and will impact the operations of the
firms related to it. Furthermore, this sector is also warming up
eventually to new round of growth irrespective of numerous
managerial, legislative and operational issues. Because of the
recent development and trends in this sectors, functioning of the
firms are highly affected and thus, it is highly suggested to the
firms to take into account these issues at the earliest possible so
that timely strategies and policies can be developed for smooth
functioning. Other than this, it is also essential on the part of
hotel to update their business processes with the upcoming trend
and enlargements so as to make sure success for their firms.
