Brief Business Problem -

Most of the operations in the logistics and transportation companies, right from the
warehouse to the destination are highly dispersed in nature. Some of the problems faced
by the companies are stated below,
• Lack of trust factor between the driver and the management.
• Often the maintenance part of the vehicles is not taken care of leading to the sudden
breakdown of vehicles which often results in much higher losses and cost of repair.
• During transportation due to some factors there may be damage to the products, which
results in a decrease in the revenue to the companies.
• Most of the vehicles don’t comply with the government norms such as pollution levels,
speed range, overworking hours for the drivers leading to hazardous consequences both
to the people and the environment.
Proposed solution -
We plan to create an “IoT driven Machine Learning Ecosystem” for the transportation
industry that not only helps the companies in solving the problems stated above but also
helps increase their profits.
• We will be collecting data from the sensor array and these sensors are interfaced
through a wireless protocol to a prototyping platform NodeMCU ESP 8266.
• The sensor array consists of,
Accelerator to measure the speed of the vehicle and to inform the owner or
concerned authorities in case of over speeding or rash driving.
Float sensor to measure fuel consumption and to inform the owner in case of
unusual fuel consumption.
GPS sensor to track the real-time location of the vehicle.
Proposed solution -
The ultrasonic sensor is used in assisting while the vehicle is in the parking lot or while
reversing.
Temperature and humidity sensor to regulate the condition of containers while
carrying food or highly sensitive pharmaceuticals.
CO sensor to monitor the level of CO and other greenhouse gases emitted by the truck
or by the vehicle to which this system is employed.
• The data collected is then analyzed with the help of machine learning and CNN. We tend to
observe patterns in data and bring meaningful insights for a better transportation
ecosystem.
• The prediction results such as Preventive maintenance schedules, optimized driver routes
(to decrease the fuel consumption), and compliance-related information are provided to
the owner with the help of a custom-designed android application.
Future Scope -

• We plan to develop a Vehicle Black Box System on lines with the black
box systems used in flights, that can help both the insurance
companies & the police during accident investigations.
Proposed Tech Stack -

• Software Used,

Blynk app, MQTT library/Adafruit, Android application, Python3.0, SQLite.

• Hardware Used,

NodeMCU ESP8266 module, GPS module, Accelerator Meter, Ultrasonic

Sensor, Temperature and Humidity Sensor, CO Sensor.
Market Positioning -

We believe technology in the logistics and transportation industry is yet to be

tapped to its true potential. And this can be achieved only with the help of
disruptive technologies such as Machine Learning and IoT to automate the tasks
thereby increasing the profits to the warehouses.

The solution will help industries in real-time monitoring of vehicle fuel efficiency,
health measurement of trucks, reducing the overall operations and maintenance
cost, and reducing the impact on the environment. It will also help in real-time
monitoring, preventive maintenance, & compliance-related information to the
operator.
Effort & Cost of Implementation -
• Effort -
 Person Hours -
3 persons working for 5 hours each day will take 15 days from ideation to
prototype.
15*5 = 125 hours

• Cost of Implementation –
 The cost of implementation is affordable. The software used in this project is
open source and thus requires no licenses. The only cost comes from
hardware components.
The overall cost for this project is nearly INR.2500/-.
