Title: Eye Health Public enlightenment using Education

and Entertainment Strategy

Background: The overall level of knowledge on eye

health issues in Nigeria is poor, accounting in part to
the unacceptably high level of avoidable blindness.
 LDP Project

• Sight-Ed a copy righted, sight educational program was

developed
• Slogan ‘’Preserving Vision, Restoring Sight’’.
• Website, email address, Facebook page, twitter and you
tube was created and a dedicated phone line opened.
• A 30-MINUTE EYE HEALTH EDUCATIONAL TVPROGRAM
• (PACKAGED WITH INTERVIEWS GRANTED BY CONSULTANT
OPHTHALMOLOGISTS AND FILMS ON EYE HEALTH) AIMED
AT REDUCING THE BURDEN OF AVOIDABLE BLINDNESS IN
AFRICA.

• Highlighted ophthalmic issues and pathologist including but not limited to

blindness, Cataract, Apollo, refractive error , low Vision, Traditional Eye medication

• Films used were: You are my eye on Cataract, Still Water on glaucoma previously
shot and Sight Snipers on Cataract shot for the project

• Presently being shown on four television stations concurrently,
• Short clips of same were posted on You tube, website and other platform

• Mobile phones used to disseminate health education messages to 10,000

randomly selected numbers across the country
• Press conferences, television interviews and radio programs were granted
• Tracking of results via estimated viewers, analysis of websites and face book page.

• Over 5 million estimated viewers from TV stations

• You tube viewers total 10,000
• Responses on mobile phones on questions,
seeking referrals and comments from 1200,
handled by a dedicated staff .
• A big thank you to over 60 persons involved with
the project!
