What is IOT?

• Internet of Things (IOT) is the network of physical objects or "things"

embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity,
which enables these objects to collect and exchange data.

• The Internet of Things (IOT) is a system of interrelated computing devices,

mechanical and digital machines, objects, animals or people that are provided
with unique identifiers and the ability to transfer data over a network
without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction.”

• IOT allows objects to be sensed and controlled remotely across existing

network infrastructure, creating opportunities for more direct integration
between the physical world and computer-based systems, and resulting in
improved efficiency, accuracy and economic benefit.

How does IOT work?
The entire IOT process starts with the devices themselves which helps you to
communicate with the IOT platform.

Following are the fundamental components of an IOT system

Sensors/Devices
Sensors or devices are a key component that helps you to collect live data from the
surrounding environment.
Connectivity
All the collected data is sent to a cloud infrastructure. The sensors should be
connected to the cloud using various mediums of communications.
Data Processing
Once that data is collected, and it gets to the cloud, the software performs
processing on the gathered data.
User Interface
The information needs to be available to the end-user in some way
Pros & Cons of Internet of Things
Pros: Cons:

• Access information • Privacy & security

• Communication • Complexity

• Cost effective • Lesser jobs

• Automation • Dependability
Criticisms and Controversies of IOT
Scholars and social observers and pessimists
have doubts about the promises of the
ubiquitous computing revolution, in the areas as:

• Privacy
• Security
• Autonomy and Control
• Social control
• Political manipulation
• Design
• Environmental impact
• Influences human moral decision making

Monitoring Cattle
In the world of IoT, even the cows
will be connected and monitored.
Sensors are implanted in the ears
of cattle.
This allows farmers to monitor
cows’ health and track their
movements, ensuring a healthier,
more plentiful supply of milk and
meat for people to consume.
On average, each cow generates
about 200 MB of informati on per
year.
