What is TCAS?
• TCAS is an aircraft collision avoidance system designed to reduce the
incidence of mid-air collision between aircraft
• According to International Civil Aviation Organization it is to be fitted
to all aircraft with a maximum take-off mass of over 5,700 kg.
Operations
• It uses mode c and mode s.
• Interrogates 1030 MHz receives reply via 1090 MHz.
• The interrogation and response cycle may occur several times per
second.
• The TCAS builds a 3D-map of airspace near aircraft.
