enormous proportions. Except for industrial production, retail establishments
such as shopping malls and carnival-related businesses, the country unifies
for almost a week and the festivities are intense, day and night, mainly in
coastal cities. The Rio de Janeiro carnival alone attracted 4.9 million people in
2011, and 400,000 were foreigners.
